Canadian Club Chairman's Select 100% Rye

Hey good notes Chris. It's a subtle critter this one, with a definite straight character but well-mannered which is what they say about Canadian people in general. (I have always found this flattering to my country but not really any more true of us than Americans or indeed other nationalities I've met, odd how these notions start).

I know I've had a few rounds at this, but one more. It's very rounded, but with a full sweet quality and that piny/rye note a lot of straight rye has. Less impactful than most American straight rye, but also, it is 80 proof, plus, well the "Canadian factor" I guess. Excellent value and would meet any discerning taster's palate IMO.

I would put myself in the same boat. My taste is pretty wide for whisky.

That's it, the "industrial" element is the grain whisky part which is probably 90% of the bottle in the Premium…

Spent an afternoon in Canada across the river from Niagara Falls, NY, but all I recall is my buddy and I whiling away our time in a bar while the girls shopped.

Actually I like air travel and as a recipient of an air medal have logged a fair number of hours in a variety of aircraft but no longer have the patience for airports.

Well you need to reacquaint with Canada. It is really quite different from the U.S., so my American friends tell me - different yet similar at the same time. Think about it.

I purchased this rye locally for $25.00 today.

I think my taste just cators towards Bourbon, Because I found this Rye had a flat nose and wasn't very interesting at all, And was quite watery. I felt like I could drink this stuff like water...And I don't like that feeling.

Every time I try a new Rye Whisky...I am just never impressed.

It is decent for what it is, I just prefer Bourbon I guess!

It certainly is a different animal. Thankfully a friend of mine enjoys it quite a bit so I handed it off to him!

I remember drinking the CC 12 Year Classic before and I got quite sick,,,Maybe that was my own fault !

With all respect, you probably had too much. I know lots of people who had similar trouble with too much bourbon. It's really the alcohol that does it, IMHO…

Not sure about US distribution but up here they are spending too much on advertising for it not to be a long term addition to the line-up.

With all respect, you probably had too much. I know lots of people who had similar trouble with too much bourbon. It's really the alcohol that does it, IMHO…

Thanks SB, as I wouldn't have spent the time looking for this one had it not been for this thread!! And now the folks have (another) birthday idea, since they live close enough to go back

Slightly off-topic, but I snagged a clearance Ninety 20yr Old Canadian Rye at the LCBO for $35, and with the extra age and proof you'd think the color would reflect that. It looks several shades lighter than the CC. My head is a bit stuffy, but initial impressions were that it is alright at that price point, but I think I might have been disappointed at $50.

Well, the 20 year old is almost certainly a blend, and the CC Chairman's Select is a straight. Therein lies the whole difference, IMO.

From what I have read on Canadian whisky pages...the Ninety 20yr Rye has no rye at all...100% corn.

Just sampling a current bottling and this is even better than the initial release: seemingly older, a touch darker, very well-knit with a touch less of the waxy signature of a genuine straight whiskey. Somehow it contrives to present the CC house toffee-like smoothness even though presumably still from Alberta Distillers (label is unchanged). Crazy good value, super-soft on the palate with a rich plenitude of tangs and tastes.
