I noticed some Rosebanks seem to be floral/parma violets (not a note that I love), yet others tend to be on the citrusy/lemon side of the equation. I love me some citrusy malts. Unfortunately for $1999.99 I had to pass. If only they dropped one of those nines... Behind it was the 30yo "Fine oak" which was also a mere $1999.99. Haven't tried the Glenkinchie (I'm always tempted to say "Glen Kimchee" with that one) but I'm curious too. That Longrow 10/100 is very "Sprinkbanky" (to quote an esteemed palate I know) - hardly any ash/smoke at all with surprisingly gentle peat. That makes the Tun 1401 seem downright reasonable at $250.I'm still going back and forth on this one. My regular shop didn't receive any so I put in a request and if he gets it, I'll buy for the sake of my relationship with the store. Since it's allocated, not sure there's any left to distribute. However, I've passed it up at independent stores and Binnys so it seems that a lot of people have the same view that the price increase was a little extreme and the 1509 remains fairly available for now. It was hard not to pull the trigger on some bottles that I don't see in TN such as Devil's punch bowl, Arbeg Auriverdes, and a many Japanese bottles. I had a glass of DPB II at Jack Rose, and it was excellent (too bad it went up against 3 of the better pours I've had in my life). Maybe the excessive packaging is bothering them. I've noticed a few instances of folks like Ralfy stating Arran has a bit of a cask quality problem, and I think the wood in DPB II was really well integrated. I don't think $125ish is completely outlandish to pay for an age stated (if you dig a bit) cask strength edition that shows the best of what a young distillery is capable of, especially compared to a lot of bottles I've seen the same folks review. I passed on a 2010 release today.While I think the profile is supposed to be similar from year to year the 2013 that I tried was reported to have a very heavy sherry component compared to past years (which I liked!) and seemed to get generally good reviews. Don't know about the 2010.But I also tend to have a bias towards older whiskey as I think the older it is the less they are likely to have taken short cuts as the whisky boom depletes stocks so the older bottle might be intriguing. It's to the point now that stores don't even want them in inventory because they know they'll turn into dusties. At least in MD. Hell, the DEs almost always end up nearly half off. The only Diageo special releases that I have seen sell well are Lagavulin 12 and the unpeated Caol Ila series. I think this whole thing is going to come to a head soon. I've heard its better than the 18, and is discontinued.Edit: cask strength kilchoman, cs sherry, cs sherry finish. All three bottled for Impex.
