Which SB? I like the 2003 better than the 2004 (I think but for sure either of those better than the 2002).

I think 2003 was stellar! Interestingly, I have had the same experience with every bottle of 2004, and I have had a few, where the first few pours are a little hot and astringent. Then, after sitting open for week or two, the bottles open up with a nice spicy flavor with a hint of cherry. Every time I see EWSB, I check every bottle just in case a 2003 is hidden on the shelf.

Don't sweat it, Phil. The worst 4R SB is still better than the best Stagg Jr.

I have no doubt that you are right Joe!! However, I want to find some way to make what I do have drinkable

What is that point Gary? I'll be darned if I can find it, and I really want to...

I struggled finding that point with the only bottle (batch 1) I bought. However, I eventually found it in the 100 to 110 proof range. It was very CEHT in character in that range.

Having one of my favorite desserts........ Bourbon and Oreo cookies. The bourbon tonight is SA 7y. A great combo. It still doesn't take the place of Oreos and a big cold glass of milk, but it's the next best thing.

Whoever first posted the BT/Stagg Jr. vatting nailed it, IMHO. For me it's 2:1 BT/Stagg Jr

After dinner, my last pour from a 9Y3M PS FR OBSK and chased it with a FR PS OBSF. Really like the rye heavy recipes, but kind of itching to try another of the OE recipes. Not much available in NJ right now in the stores I frequent.

Stagg Jr. batch #1 vatted with some Old Charter 8. I usually vat with BT but I don't have any on hand so OC8 it is to keep it in the same family. It's working quite nicely tonight.

Had a pour of Buffalo Trace sitting outside by the fire after dinner and end the night with some Barterhouse before my night is done. Nice end to a long weekend.

The Boston area is getting pasted with another snowstorm tonight, 12-20 inches on top of the 20+ inches already on the ground.

I have chipped ice from the problem area at the edge of the roof, raked snow off the house and garage, enjoyed a lovely dinner with the neighbors because our kitchen is still under renovation, shoveled the walks and driveway, found out that my office is closed tomorrow because of snow (woohoo!), and now I'm inside with a big pour of ETL and some cookies, before heading to bed so I can do it all again tomorrow.

Spring can't come soon enough.

You said it! I was able to get to my office today but I'm heading home now to fire up the snow blower for round 2. At that point I'll join you in a nice pour of ETL.

I didn't measure the water out, but if I had to guess I would say it was around 100 (maybe even slightly less).

JPS 21 batch 1. This has been a great bottle, for an older bourbon.
Tasted so good I'm having a second drink. I'm nearing the end of this bottle, and I have to say that I am really pleased with it. A tasty, unique experience. Lots of savory dry oak, but there's honey and cocoa to balance it. Some white pepper toward the end. I would buy another bottle from batch one if I saw it at a good price.

More snow falling down, office is closed again tomorrow (along with the MBTA public transit system, though roads aren't too bad if you have good tires), much snow and ice removed from the walkways and roof (we have a plow guy for our driveway, worth every penny), and as a reward to myself, a good shot of OGD114 in my hot chocolate.

Ordinarily I'd heat milk and cocoa powder and sugar on the stove, but seeing as the new cooktop isn't hooked up yet, even Swiss Miss is mightily improved by a shot of bourbon.
