been shoveling snow/slush from sidewalks, driveways, street, steps, roof, and successfully clearing a frozen over cellar step floor drain, so I'm gonna have to enjoy something proofy tonight. Its a 'winter birthday celebration' for 8 people in our circle tonight, so i need no excuse anyway. Think Im gonna go out and get a few OGD114s to gift some friends.

I really feel for the new englanders and their snow. we only got a foot, but people in KY lose all common sense at the first snowflake.

Did a blind tasting of 3 bourbons that I previously did not like. I feel like when you know that you don't like something and you have pour, you've already told yourself it is bad and can't get an unbiased opinion, so I wanted to taste them blind. They were RR SmB 10, HW American Prairie Reserve, and Johnny Drum Private Stock. The JDPS was by far the worst, I am not sure what to do with this bottle besides maybe use it as a charcoal starter. The RR and HWAPR were close, but ultimately the RR was my favorite.

On this cold snowing day in Maryland I am starting off with a pour of the Breckenridge Spiced Whiskey. Perfect on a day like this.

Was snowing pretty hard for a little while, but now the sun has come out, still some clouds around though. Having some EC12, there was a few months back that I was not really a fan of it, but it is definitely growing on me, one of my favorites now.

Snowed again for a little while, now sunny and some big white clouds lingering and blue skyes. Switched over to some Bookers Small Batch Barrel Proof 6-8 Yr. Old (128.6 Proof). Hitting the spot.

Having some EHTBP 129.0 tonight with an ice ball.

Mine is sitting unopened. I am not sure what I am waiting for. I guess some special occasion. I am odd like that sometimes. I always feel like I need to finish off a "lesser" bottle first before opening something else.

The lesser bottle for me tonight is the new WT RB (112.8). Opened last week. First few pours were meh. This pour was little better. I always like to give something new a little time before passing judgment. I have always been a WT fan but the last few bottles WT101 and WTRB have been a close to average. I guess I shouldn't expect every bottle to blow me away but I do expect consistency unless it is a single barrel.

After my Irish SBS (Green Spot, Yellow Spot, Redbreast), I'm moving back to Bourbon. Think I'll start with some Weller 12.

went to a large gathering of friends tonight. its fun to see how, over the past decade Ive been part of the group, the group has transitioned from an almost-all group of red wine drinkers, to half-and-half drinkers of red wine and bourbon. There was quite an assortment of bourbons tonight. First I tried WTKS, as Id never had it. Not really my thing, it seemed rather rye-heavy, even for WT. Then, I had some Charter101, which I hadnt had in over a year. Not bad, but still not really hitting the spot. Then, I gave 4RSiB another shot, trying to keep an open mind about it. While indifferent, it was far better than I remembered it being the last few times Id tried it. I then went to my regular, the HH6BIB, and enjoyed that.

Following a long week of shoveling snow, ice and freezing rain, I decided to reward myself (and a few others) with a healthy dose of '13 PVW15.

This morning I had a generous pour of Ardbeg 10 with my crab and avocado omelet.

Scotch? Oh well. You're still one of my idols Will.

Once again I'm having a pour of my beloved 07 WLW with my morning coffee. Sadly, the end is nearing for this bottle.:frown: The last pour should be mighty chewy though. The char in the bottom of the bottle is something to behold.

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around this concept. Help me understand.

When I'm drinking something like WLW (or just about any bourbon really, but especially the special ones), I like to have a clean palate in order to really enjoy the flavors uncluttered. Are you finding that the flavor of the coffee compliments the WLW or is the WLW just powerful enough to hold its own? I'm also assuming that you are drinking these side by side and that the WLW is not dumped in the coffee itself. That's the domain of squire and TT.

Rearranging all our stock at the store to make a better display for the five additional store select barrels we'll be receiving in the next few months, I came across the sample case we got with the samples from Knob Creek. The about 3 oz's left in all 3. I'm tasting them again today....

Went to Longman & Eagle for the first time and had a delicious lineup: Pappy 15, Willett 21 (L&E barrel select), Bookers 50th anniversary, '14 WLW, Balcones Brimstone, and McKenna (another barrel select).

WLW was far and away my favorite. The Willett 21 was very strange; it was overwhelmingly herbal, had no oak, no spice, and a very brief finish. Being the most expensive of the bunch, it was also the most disappointing.

No Steve, I'm not dumping WLW in my coffee. I drink Millstone Chocolate Velvet coffee. The hint of chocolate in my coffee works pretty good with a few bourbons, but it's really outstanding with a little WLW on the side. They compliment each other very nicely.

Four Roses, a bunch of expressions

Four Roses for me tonight as well. Just one expression, OBSQ. Finished off the last two pours in a bottle.

This freshly opened OESO from Binny's is a fruit bomb with a few drops of water that I can imagine turning into either a nuclear warhead or a dud with some airtime. Not something I thought I would like, but apparently I don't know my taste buds well enough.
