Closing out the end of a beautiful Memorial Day weekend. It seems fitting that the clouds have rolled in, and a light rain has begun to fall. It brings a sobering solemnity to what this day is about. So, I raise a humble and thankful toast of a fine Wild Turkey American Spirit bourbon to those brave men and women who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country, and average Joes like me.

Well said sir. I will join you on that note with some WT CGF.

Well, started off the evening opening my Woodford Reserve Sonoma Cutrer :frown:. Then on to the Booker's batch 15-01 and wow; just like the Baker's, an incredible product by Jim Beam.

Well said sir.

I'm at my parents house enjoying the Beam's Choice 8yr from 1976 - the only bourbon they have (they don't drink any more so these bottles have been sitting here since, well.....1976).

I concur on the sentiments regarding Joe's post! I have had similar thoughts throughout the day. I will also say good job on enjoying Bicentennial bourbon. You say bottles so hopefully there are a few older offerings to enjoy! :toast:

Cookout at the neighbors with others who are mainly beer drinkers. I was drinking OFBIB then decided to break out a bottle of PVW lot B from last year and made a few converts.

It's been a good weekend with a little bit of everything squeezed in. I had the pleasure of watching my son participate in the state track and field meet, decorated graves and paid my respects to family members that have passed on, and shared a meal while visiting with my late wifes family in eastern Ky. Tonight, I enjoyed a nice laid back cookout/dinner with my lady friend. While doing so, I started off with a PS OBSK (11 yrs/9 months; 108.6p) then finished up with a healthy pour of HPS.

Freedom isn't free... so, if you have served and are reading this... thank you!

Taking a quiet moment to toast fallen comrades and some Gold Star Families I specifically know, and Gold Star Families in general. Four Roses OESQ seems perfectly up to the task.

Had a solid pour of EC12, which was excellent, followed by a pour of Larceny and then a pour of J.T.S. Brown. It's a HH night. If I'm feeling silly, I may have to dip into the Dant.

Anniversary: had our annual Gold Vein 107 pour. Then ETL Commemorative, then Russell's SB with a cigar. Cooked breakfast and dinner for the wife too. Maybe I "earned" some near future purchases!

My wife and I took advantage of the long weekend to visit our daughter in Reno, NV. She took us to a favorite restaurant of hers and I was pleasantly surprised at the whiskey selection they had. Since it was only $12, I ended up having a nice pour of a 2013 GTS. I did, however, pass up the flight of all 6 Van Winkles for $120. The only way you could have any of them was to buy the whole package, which might explain why none of the bottles had ever been opened.

Back home and enjoying some ORVW 10

Retrieved bottles of SAOS 7 yr and 10 yr from the bunker. They made for an exceptional Sat & Sun of sipping time on the porch.

Wife and I tried Angel's Envy sample I bought on Friday. It was pretty forgettable, as a few on here mentioned it was and I guessed it would be based on the marketing.

Also finished a bottle of Baker's on Saturday. That turned out to be much better than I remember though I think it is priced a little high for what it is. Still a pleasant end to the longest-opened bottle in my collection.

Bitchin' day at work today. :banghead: Having a couple of pours of my own (current) version of the Weller SB blend. Weller SR, PS OWA, Weller 12, and 2011 WLW. Not quite as outstanding as some of my past Weller concoctions, but I have to say it's pretty darned tasty. :yum: Works for me at least!

Cheers! Joe

Have you ever done equal parts WSR/W12/OWA? I finally got a W12 today and mixed 6oz/4oz OWA/W12 and was considering doing mix of all 3 in the other empty pint I use for first time vattings.

Not sure if I am going to have a drink tonight or not but if I do I imagine it will end up being a flight of all 3 neat to start.

I've done a couple of very interesting vattings of Wellers in the past. You might want to check out some of the threads from past Sampler's and KBF's if you want the low down. FWIW, they went over well, and most everyone that tried them thought they tasted pretty good. I did my Weller Blend II again for the 2014 Sampler because everyone liked it so much.

Finishing up a VOBBIB6yr and coke zero. 11 months to finish this one. I know some of you love VOB, but the only way I could get it down was to mix it. I bought a family size last summer in TN. Its not distributed in FL that Ive ever seen. Its talked about enough, and the price was right, but I just didnt care for it. I get an almost vegetal taste with it that I found off putting. It was an experience that didnt break the bank. Lessons learned that dont cost much I certainly dont mind. This is just not one Ill replace. For those who like it, more power to you, but as a mixer, Ill stick with EWB

Vegetal VOBBIB? Never got that, jonhalter. But I do endorse the use of Coke Zero with bourbons I can't otherwise consume. And, speaking of things some people cannot handle, tonight for the third night in a row I'm hitting the on sale @$21 per 750 Knob Creek. What's wrong with me??

That's a rhetorical question, y'all.

It's an ECBP night tonight after some big storms and a tornado touchdown a mile from home. It has a wonderful calming effect.
