flahute
When you wake up at 6am and head to the kitchen only to find yourself sloshing in standing water in the living room, is it too early for whiskey?Damn. I've been reading about the flooding in Texas on the news. Sounds like it got to you as well. So sorry to hear this. Definitely not too early for whiskey. dcbt
Good guess on the hot water heater, but no. (though that did happen a few years ago.) this time it was torrential downpours last night, 6 inches in a few hours, ventured in from outside. Unbelievable spring down here this year. We went from a severe drought with lakes 20% full for many years to flooding everywhere and lakes maxed out. All in 2 months time, erasing a 5 year drought. Bring back the drought hah.Edit to add please forgive grammar and typos. Mobile phone usage byproduct; too much of a pain to fix. Hop
So sorry that happened. I used to live in Flower Mound outside Dallas as well as a year or so in Houston and know how the rains can be there in TX. Good luck on the clean up and hope the rain stops at least for a month or so to let it dry up a bit

I'm afraid I didn't realize that you live in the Dallas area. For some reason I had it in my head that you were in Michigan, don't ask me why. We have friends in Houston who somehow have managed to stay dry but their neighbors just a few blocks away have been flooding in a terrible way. Sorry to hear about your troubles and hoping for a break with all of this crazy rain you've been getting. I'm guessing you need a drink more than ever, so bottoms up! dcbt
Thanks for the well wishes, unclebunk, Hop, flahute, etc. The good news is my bar is unscathed! Cleanup in effect now. In a bit I'll try to plug back in all the electronics, see how we're faring there. Holding my breath...

dcbt
Thanks Andrew and Kelly. Yea, I also just noticed a spot in my ceiling about to cave in, so apparently I have roof damage as well, despite the new roof in 2012. Been on the phone for most of the day with insurance, roofers, water extraction, etc. What a headache. Finished off a big ass bottle (25oz or so?) of St Bernadus ABT 12, now vatted up 3oz of ECBP + MMCS + Stagg Jr. It's one of those days. Of course it's supposed to rain again tonight. No fun. Still plan on being there tomorrow, Kelly. Like you said, it sounds even better now. You try that Balcones Bourbon that you bought yet? Curious about that one tomorrow! Didn't realize it had hit town already.

MTNBourbon
Have not had this one in awhile Wild Turkey Rare Breed Barrel Proof (112.8 Proof).
GaryT
Prepared a FR barrel proof tasting for when I finish up some work I brought home. The wife surprised me with this barrel stave glass holder and two new Glencairns. Wow - that is super cool! She's a keeper, eh! Great minds I suppose; I lined up a blind sbs of a recent FR gift shop OBSQ and a store selection OBSQ. I did dilute the store selection (121 proof from the bottle) to somewhere close to the gift shop (108 proof), and was a bit surprised that I preferred the diluted store selection over the gift shop - although both were very nice. The store pick for me seemed to have more depth and better balance. Looking forward to repeating this one a few more times to see if this was an off night, and may either dilute both to some benchmark (like 100 proof), or try both right at bottling proof. Although I just had a cheap TV tray - no fancy barrel stave glass holder was involved
Flyfish
Good old BT. One of the numerous ways I fall short of perfection is to lament the bourbon I can't get instead of more fully appreciating the bourbons that are readily available. Got to work on being more of a glass half full kind of guy. With that said, I think I'll go have another glass half full.
Phil T
I have been on a serious wheater kick lately ( I never met a Weller I didn't like...sage words from a famous SB guru) because they have been total butterscotch bombs. It's just how my palette has been running lately. Tonight, I'm tapping into a couple different OWA SB s....I've said it before, bar none, these single barrels are the best wheaters I've ever drunk. And at less then $25 a bottle, puts them in OMG territory
GaryT
Reached for some ND OGD 8yr BIB. Just a gorgeous, butterscotch-sundae of a pour :yum: Only wish I knew what was on the shelves way back when to have bought more of it (what was I thinking drinking SoCo in the early 90s when this was available?!?!) I'm still amazed at how good the HH is and so thankful to Jim, Cliff and Joe for making it happen. Now, if I my damn cigar would just stay lit............ Richnimrod
I cracked open the new bottle of Old Forester 1870 'Original Batch' I bought yesterday. Not fabulous; but I'm reserving judgement 'til it has some 'air-time'. I think this may be one that improves markedly that way. Hope so, for $50/750.It bears a 'family resemblance' to OFBB; but never would be mistaken for any of the better iterations of that pour, at least until the sharp-edged woody component smoothes out. We shall see in a few days or weex.
fozzy71
small pour of 4RSmB and 4RSB for another SBS. They are both so good I can't decide which is better so I just went with a bigger pour of SB next to even up the bottles. I suppose I like the SB better as it is smoother even though higher proof but the SmB is so good too. Now I see why they get so much love here. I was thinking about cracking the 10oz OWA/W12 and OWA/WSR vattings for a try but I think I will let them mingle longer.
