I cracked open the new bottle of Old Forester 1870 'Original Batch' I bought yesterday. Not fabulous; but I'm reserving judgement 'til it has some 'air-time'. I think this may be one that improves markedly that way. Hope so, for $50/750.

It bears a 'family resemblance' to OFBB; but never would be mistaken for any of the better iterations of that pour, at least until the sharp-edged woody component smoothes out. We shall see in a few days or weex.

I just learned that the OFBB gets released on my bday so I will have to try and score a bottle this sept.

I'm officially celebrating the start of the weekend with some SB HHSS#1. I'm still amazed at how good the HH is and so thankful to Jim, Cliff and Joe for making it happen.

Thanks, Gary. Those HHSS bottles are special whiskey, for sure. Heaven Hill, and particularly Larry Kass, were so good to SB on that endeavor. We really have them to thank. It was interesting when we approached them with the idea of the bottling, and asked them to propose some special whiskies. They came back with some nice options, but added, "you guys should really look at this cognac finished wheater. We've tasted it and it is spectacular." But, we were thinking something else, which ended up with them not being able to do. So we declined. We tried again, but...."Sorry, but we can't. But, seriously, you guys need to really try this cognac finished wheater." So we got some samples, and tasted them in Bardstown. We...were...blown...away. We left there thinking, "Whoa! Call them back and say Yes! Yes! Yes! before they change their mind!"

Appropriately, a neat pour of HHSS#2 and a salute to Heaven Hill. :toast:

Started the evening with some SAOS 10yr 100 proof. I have to agree with the many others here who proclaim that they prefer the 7yr to the 10yr. The 10 is a fine whiskey, I'm not knocking it, but the 7 yr (as I remember it - it's been a while) is tastier and more balanced and rounded to my palate.

Following up with Beam BIB. It predictably tastes young in comparison, but is a fantastic expression of the Beam profile.

I'm feeling some ECBP hazmat edition as my next pour.

I'll add another cheers to those who made the SB HHSS series possible.:toast:

For me, a couple of nice pours of HM BIB tonight. HH always delivers!

Earlier this morning I had a small pour of WLW 125.3 while waiting for the coffee to brew.

I really like my bourbon in the AM.

I always look forward to seeing which WLW you're having with your coffee in the morning. What's your favorite Will? FWIW, mine is the 07.

Most weekend chores done just had back to back pours of SAOS 7yr & 10yr. To me the 7yr is so much richer in flavor. I have a couple of each in the bunker and when they are gone I doubt I'll buy another 10yr.

Played a round of golf this morning and got fit for new irons then had a pour of BT at the new bar. Sure it was only noon but drinking early and often doesn't bother me....

$15 cheaper makes my (and apparently many others') preference for the SAOS 7 Year that much better.

Some more Bakers tonight. This bottle is getting close to the end. I have to drink it neat as a few drops of water just creates unpleasant aldehyde and wood notes.

Having a fine pour of SAOS 11 year. Might have to pick another bottle up, great stuff.

Although I've not had it for some time, the 07 is very hard to beat. The 126.6 is excellent as well. I wonder how they would be if they all were normalized to a fixed proof say 107 proof.

I only have a couple opened now but I think it would make for an interesting experiment.

I do like my WLW, when I had a choice of one that's the one I choose.

Thanks Andrew and Kelly. Yea, I also just noticed a spot in my ceiling about to cave in, so apparently I have roof damage as well, despite the new roof in 2012. Been on the phone for most of the day with insurance, roofers, water extraction, etc. What a headache. Finished off a big ass bottle (25oz or so?) of St Bernadus ABT 12, now vatted up 3oz of ECBP + MMCS + Stagg Jr. It's one of those days. Of course it's supposed to rain again tonight. No fun.

Still plan on being there tomorrow, Kelly. Like you said, it sounds even better now. You try that Balcones Bourbon that you bought yet? Curious about that one tomorrow! Didn't realize it had hit town already.

Haven't cracked the Balcones Bourbon yet, figured it taste it first with everyone else tonight. Apparently our area got two cases (TS got one of them).

I did try the bottle of True blue CS I got a few days ago. It's phenomenal. Highly recommend that one.

I'm hoping Winston brings some French Oak and/or the Staff selection single Malt.

It was very humid here on Long Island today. I spent the day building an addition for the wife's chicken coupe. 20 chickens apparently isn't enough.

I need something cool. Let me say I'm not a cocktail kinda guy. I like my bourbon neat. But went a little side ways. 2 shots wt101 in a pint glass with ice good homemade lemonade and topped off with a splash of seltzer.

Cheers

For more reasons than I can count, I LOVE this post. :toast:

To you, MRSMAKEITOUTOFWOOD, your improvised cocktail, and your chickens...Cheers!

Virgin Bourbon 101. Ive found another cheap bourbon that I love. With one small ice cube it has the charred kettle corn flavor (minus the bitterness) that I really like. Cheers Everyone!

Having a Four Roses kinda Saturday night - started with a blind sbs of some OBSOs (which left me very happy with the more expensive gift shop bottle), and moving on to some 2012 SmBLE (although the talk of HHSS has me giving that bottle some serious eyes . . . the night is still young!)

Started with KC and moved on to Baker's. Was tempted to have some Booker's just to complete the trend but decided it was a little warm and humid for a barrel proofer.
