Just arrived and unpacked at the rental beach house for a week of R&R. Celebrating the start with a pour of KCSB.

Having a Four Roses kinda Saturday night - started with a blind sbs of some OBSOs (which left me very happy with the more expensive gift shop bottle), and moving on to some 2012 SmBLE (although the talk of HHSS has me giving that bottle some serious eyes . . . the night is still young!)

Stormy night in Indy and I opted for Four Roses as well. Drinking a blend of OESO and FRSmB (2:1 ratio). The OESO is a little too fruity for me. It is hot enough but not enough spice. The FRSmB balances it out and brings the proof down to around 103.

That sounds lovely! I decided to bypass the HHSS for my final (bourbon) pour of the night, and went with some 2010 WLW. Been nursing this one for a long time, but since I finally got another WLW last fall, slowly killing this one off :)

I did a mixture of two Bourbons tonight. The JEP 6y wasn't up to par, so I mixed in a little OS 7y. Now it's very good.

Seems like many others and for me as well is a 4R night. OESV PS earlier and just poured the last of a bottle of SmB LE 2014.

I haven't decided what/if I will drink tonight but I was just out at the cabinet eye balling the dwindling PS bottle of BT thinking it might be a good candidate if I don't sample my PMP vattings instead. A cool rainy night calls for something with a bit more heat I think, so maybe I will go down to the bunker and grab the OGD114, or maybe the EWBIB to try.

How do you like that Alberta Dark I see in the background? I still haven't opened mine as I have a couple other rye's open that need finished and a couple others bunkered as well. The more I try rye the more I realize I like bourbon more. :/

I drank a lot (too much?) 4RSmB/SB last night. :70358-devil:

OGD114 is certainly a nice pour on a cool rainy evening. :toast:

Eased my way in on this lovely Saturday evening with '04 EWSB over ice. Now moved on to HHSS #2, and killed the bottle. Just everything that bourbon should be. Fortunately, I have some backup in the bunker.

AD is a good rye. It's different but good. Open it up. I have enjoyed it.

Russel reserve single barrel. First with a king cube then I had forgotten to make more so my subsequents were neat. Good stuff man. I think I like the neats better. Go Hawks!

I decided to go with the store pick BT that is nearing it's end. Such a great pour. I will be grabbing a couple more bottles (a case?) next time I am at that store since I need some BT for the bunker.

did some W12, Journeyman Ravenswood Rye (had to get the Chicago inspired rye), and some blanton's while watching the ducks get upended by the Hawks!

I have tried the Alberta. It's fine, but really not my taste. The sherry wine flavor is very present, so it's never going to hit the spot if you are in a typical bourbon/rye kind of mood. It's certainly different and I'm glad I tried it, but I have about 3/4 of the bottle left and will probably just keep it around to offer guests who want to try it.

Had a few glasses of Basil Hayden earlier at a party because it was there and I'd never had it before. In my mind I'd always made it up to be a slightly-better OGD, but with such a low proof, it really does taste pretty boring and I'd have to do the comparison SBS to be sure, but it really did taste like the 114 with too much ice left in for too long.

I spared everyone the lecture, BTW. The other choice was Burnside Bourbon :shudder:

^I liked BH when I had it a few months ago but that was early in my bourbon journey. I doubt I will buy another given it's price and my new mantra of trying to keep my avg/bottle cost under $30.

Killed the BT bottle and poured the last 1.5oz into my last pours decanter. On to my '04 EWSB again now, so smooth but I think I might like that BTPS better. I have an '05 and '06 EWSB in the bunker that I had thought I would open to do a SbSbS but that probably won't happen given my limited space for open bottles and all the open Weller's I currently have. Maybe I should just open the EWBIB and do a SbS with this '04 EWSB instead......

OK I give up. BTPS? I'm guessing Buffalo Trace something or other. Any help here?

By the way, I'm into a vatting of Ancient Age and OGD114. Just an experiment.

Buffalo Trace Private Selection i.e. store pick single barrel

With Four Roses being a theme on the boards this evening, I just had to participate. First pour was a recent purchase from the gift shop from last week's visit. PS OESV, one that I've been after for a while. Very first pour from the bottle - gave it a lot of time to air out. Very pleased with the purchase after one pour. As always, will need multiple pours to really get familiar and form a solid opinion but I have high hopes for this one.

I followed with a big pour of 4R SmB LE '14, whose reputation precedes itself.

Finally opened my CEHTSmB... interesting, I like it but not sure if I like it more than the BT I just killed.

A couple of pours of 4RSmB while out at dinner last night with Mrssmokinjoe. The Small Batch is so hit or miss with me, and has been since it's inception. Sometimes, I think it is the greatest whiskey that I have ever had, and I wonder why I don't buy more of it. Other times, the best kudos that I can give it is it's handsome bottle design. Last night, it was the former. Wonderfully light, but not thin. Nice fruitiness and with a solid oak unless on the finish. Of course, it could have been that it was paired with the best shrimp and grits I have ever had...
