You're asking the wrong forum for that info, JF. In general, if we spent less time thinking and worrying about that aspect of our hobby, we'd all be less irregular.

Okay, just curious! You hear so much about it, I just wanted to see what it's all about. Thanks

You mean, "decided to sit back and let PHIL have a few." Phil is a turkey.

Actually, Phil is a groundhog.

Let's find Phil so we can have a sit down.

I'm actually pretty easy to find. You like bourbon, I like bourbon, let's have a bourbon..:toast:

This Friday I picked up a EC12. Today on my way home from my hometown, I stopped by Binny's in Champaign and picked up a FRSB and a trio of BiBs: J.T.S. Brown, Evan Williams, and VOB.

Stumbled into a Booker's batch 2014-6. $52.95 is the going price for Booker's around here. It was that or the EH Taylor Single Barrel for $70ish. Went with the roundtable batch.

Thanks to some overseas cohorts this arrived today. More incentive to finish off some other bottles to make some room for this guy up in the starting lineup.

A great bottle that is fairly inexpensive overseas, at least in Japan. I didn't enjoy the regular single barrel Blanton's we have here in the US but SFTB is so much better.

It just recently shot up in price in the UK. Unless we're just waiting for the next delivery.

Picked up a bottle of the Jefferson's Manhattan Barrel Finished Cocktail today.

Spec's was the only store in the DFW area that seems to have gotten it, and only one of their stores.

This is where it get's crazy- When I went to pick it up, it could not be located on the shelf. I spoke to an employee I know there, and he asked me to give him a couple minutes.

finally he returned, one bottle in hand and said "Apparently it's all allocated for bars and restaurants, but I managed to get one bottle for you".

This is a $35 bottle we are talking about, and I'm not sure what self-respecting bartender is going to be serving pre-mixed Manhattans out of a bottle. Sheesh!

I also find it a little funny that this project, which was done in conjunction with Esquire, uses Bourbon, as opposed to Rye.

Here's a quote from Esquire's own "How to make a Manhattan" article...

When properly built, the Manhattan is the only cocktail that can slug it out toe-to-toe with the martini. It's bold and fortifying, yet as relaxing as a deep massage. J.P. Morgan used to have one at the close of each trading day. It's that kind of drink."When properly built" -- there's the problem. For a real Manhattan, you need rye whiskey. No amount of fiddling with the vermouth and bitters can save this drink if you've got bourbon in the foundations; it's just too sticky-sweet. But with rye, this venerable creation -- its roots stretch back to the old Manhattan Club, in 1874 -- is as close to divine perfection as a cocktail can be. The harmony between the bitters, the sweet vermouth, and the sharp, musky whiskey rivals even that existing between gin and tonic water. All things change, and immortality is not in the grasp of man or his creations. For many a year, it seemed that the virtual disappearance of rye meant that the real Manhattan had gone the way of the Aztecs. Luckily, that's not the end of the story. The wave of high living that washed us out of the last century has brought with it a renewed interest in fine, funky old things like cigars, big-band jazz, and rye whiskey. Sure, sometimes this gets carried to extremes, but if that means that nobody will ever again pour a bourbon Manhattan, we'll gladly put up with all the dipshits in "Make Mine with Rye" T-shirts.

You made a good choice. EHT SB is a good bourbon, but it and the rest of the EH Taylor line are very overpriced.

One of my local big shops just opened a new location so checked it out on Sunday. They had 4RSiB on sale for $32 before my 10% discount so I snagged 3. It is one of my regular drinkers so if I can save $8 a bottle it was a no brainer for me. Thought about grabbing a case cause I know I'll drink it but figured I'd share the wealth.

Against my better judgement, I bought a bottle of Buffalo Trace Single Oak Project barrel #30 (curiosity killed the cat, I am sure it's overpriced...oh well) to make up for that I also bought a bottle of Henry McKenna BIB

"Phil" out-hustled everybody else, and in one way or the other, is reaping the benefits of his hard work. Sorry, that's what it is.

I bought a bottle of barrel 149 and while overpriced, it was still a very good bourbon. I did my research on the different barrels on drink hacker to avoid spending $60 on a 375ml that was a bad batch (cuz there were definitely a few of those). would I do it again? probably not, but at least I enjoyed the bottle. so as long as you enjoy it, I think it's worth it. and from my research, barrel 30 is one of the bottles to get, so I think you picked a good bottle.

and the HMBIB is def worth it ;)

Nice Pic, JvW! Very attractive imposition of the W12 in the foreground with the bridge and cathedral waaaay back. You may find it a bit woody, and a bit more char than expected, which some absolutely LOVE; and some prefer mellowed/moderated/punched up with about equal parts Old Weller Antique 107, assuming, of course that you haven't already had the pleasure and formed an opinion. In any case: ENJOY!!!.

I appreciate the information and am glad that my bottle made it in one piece safely back to the Commonwealth; in addition I also brought a rather rare Scotch (not available in the US) over for when my brother visits and on my way home on I-75 I was fortunate enough to pick up a bottle of ETL.

A great day and glad to be home.

Not Bourbon, but stumbled across some Balcones True Blue CS that a new store near my house had accidentally gotten.

(They said it wasn't in their system at all, therefore "accidentally...).

Ended up BSing with the guy for around 30 minutes. One of the few Specs employees I've ever met that seemed to actually know his whiskey, and enjoyed drinking it.

Browsing my area Total Wine last night and spotted these for the very first time. My interest was peaked, so I picked up a couple. Now, I need to do some research on what I bought. Man, sometimes I am very compulsive! Anyone know about these releases? $108 for the pair, out the door, tax included.
