wow really? it's not as plentiful on the shelves, but I've definitely seen it on the shelves every so often. and it's usually around $26ish now
Hasn't been at the three Binny's stores I usually go to ( Willowbrook, Downers Grove and Oak Brook) for well over a year, nor at Prestige Liquors or Main Street Wine over by me and they offer excellent selections. Just glad to know I can get it now. Having two full bottles of paper label OWA I wasn't compelled to jump but I may pick up a pair now as backups.

ah, the binny's up in highland park had it a couple of months ago, I didn't grab any, but it did sell out quick and it was limit 1. I usually I can find it at other stores though, up in the north/nw burbs. glad you can find it now tho! If you ever have trouble finding it and want to come up north a bit, I can let you know if I see it again.

Any of you Chicago guys who have had success finding OWA, care to share some insight? Especially if around the Southwest Burbs up to the Oak Brook area. I've been scouring Binny's for a while now to no avail. Down to my last bottle of the Binnys PS bottles from this past winter.

I'm in the NW burbs so I can't help you out there unless you wanna come up here. I haven't been out hunting for a while though, maybe I'll do so this week. but for the most part, I generally don't see any special bottlings at binnys... ever. ok, I lied, I saw W12 at binny's, but that's about it. I'd try some of the smaller stores and chains. like foremost, cardinal, sav-way, etc. I'll let ya know if I see anything up near me.

I haven't seen any of the Weller line at Binny's since they had the PS of OWA and ER10, which feels like a year ago (granted I only get there once a month). Luckily I have another Binny's sized store here in Peoria and they will occasionally get 6 bottles or so of OWA and WSR. Even though they try to over-charge (imo) on some other limited offerings, OWA is still $22.99. I have determined that the distributor for Sazerac delivers on Wednesdays, so I just stop after work and look through the newly arrived cases. I'll scoop up a bottle or two before it even hits the shelves (have done that with OWA, W12, and ETL).

Sometimes I think my hunting methods have become, shall I say, over the top? But when I walk away with a bottle of XYZ that I've been looking for, it vindicates my behavior.

In keeping with the thread though, I keep passing on Michter's BP Rye and the Whistle Pig lineup (10 yr, 11 yr, Old World). I am always tempted but balk at the price, considering I'm not a lover of everything rye, but have found many I do like for less money.

Been hitting some spots frequently watching for ETL that each place claims is supposed to show up "tomorrow". Passed on a John J Bowman Single Barrel last night for $52, but after reading reviews I'm seriously thinking that bottle might need to find its way to my house! Might need to see if the proprietor will give me a package deal because there's also a CEHT Single Barrel I've passed on a few times there as well!

Unfortunately it's the same story here. It's been a few months since there's been Weller of any kind on the shelves out here in the Rockford area. I'm wondering what the price will be if/when it shows up again. Sad, but I'm anticipating at least a $5.00 a bottle increase. :frown:

Guess the longer we are without, the closer we are to it being back. That said, it can't be soon enough. Hate having to ration OWA.

was walking around Washington DC Friday and decided to wander into a wine shop for fun. This (and more) was in the window. Cheapest van Winkle was $450. I think Pappy 23 was $2000 or 2500. Parker's Promise of Hope was $300. 4R 1B '14 was $200-300. AHH 16 (1974) was $2000

Won't the prolonged exposure to sunlight eventually cause harm? Even if the price was good, I'd be afraid. It's almost as bad as places that store LE bourbons on their side.

I've been seeing Maker's Mark Cask Strength and letting it stay there- and although I've heard it's good I just can't pull the trigger on the price, especially given the recent (maybe not so now htta it's been a couple of years) hub-bub over lowering the proof to meet demand. The cost per proof oz is much higher.

I've always wondered about stores that put their liquor in the front window... I personally avoid them, but I don't know for sure if it does damage it or not.

Someone posted an experiment where he stored sample bottles of the same bourbon in different conditions and tasted them blind after 6 months. The samples stored in direct sunlight appeared to score the worst:

Passed on a OGD114 at the new 27.99 price which isn't supposed to go into effect until Sat or Mon. Same store had barterhouse for $120 which is $40 over our state min. I went to another store for a couple of OGD114's at the proper price but this store also had some above state min products: 4RSmB for $40, 4RSB for $50, MMCS for $80. :/

Heat, light and age--the enemies of beer and beer drinkers alike. Can't imagine it's much different for whiskey and whiskey drinkers too. (Well, at least whiskey can handle age which is why my bunker will outlast me by decades!)[emoji12]

Passed on OGD114 @ $24.99 as well but only because I'm trying to be patient while waiting for my favorite store to get a shipment from their Buffalo Trace distributor in! Supposed to be a few extra goodies to go along with the typical stock.
