Wish I could find a bottle of Stagg Jr. 4 for $50.... I'd certainly pull the trigger on that. I really liked Stagg 3. Hope 4 is as good or better.

Passed on CEHTBP for 80 and Stagg Jr. for 50. Having a hard time but trying to limit my purchases to under 50 per bottle. Until I can make back the cost of a wedding

TS, mine's not a matter of not having room, it's more a matter of being more discriminating in my purchases. Especially since it's getting to be "that" time of year and REALLY want to get a bottle of WLW and ER 17 this fall.

I've seen a few "I need to moderate my purchases" comments around here lately. I'm still buying at a rate that well outstrips my consumption, but I think something has to give pretty soon. I'm literally running out of room. I mean, there are plenty of places in my house where I could stuff more bottles, but my wife, a very tolerant lady thus far, isn't going to look too favorably on the bedrooms or bathtubs filling up with bottles.

With the exception of a store select ER10 I wanted to try, my last several purchases have all been of bottles I've never bought before - been away from some of my usual haunts, out of town or even out of state, and seeing stuff that intrigues me. My plan right now is to perhaps stock up on some favorites on occasion, just to keep my face familiar at my main two places, hope to grab a few of the fall limited releases, then basically shut it down for awhile and work on the winnowing down the bunker.

Then again, I really do enjoy just checking out the stocks in liquor stores . . .

Passed on a Forged Oak. Not sure if there were more of these released or if people lost interest in the series, but I've seen more of these on the shelves compared to the previous releases.

Latest ECBP @ $99.99. I do love me some EC but not willing to go that far, well at least today.

Passed on a pallet of B&B22 at Costco. I'm just not seeing the exclusivity of this "limited release" :) Chalk another one up to the Diageo marketing department for repackaging a spirit that was probably never good enough for its intended use and charging us a bill and half. No thanks.

Passed on Burnside 4 year Bourbon for $41.99 in VA. I've heard of this one before and it's had decent, but not great reviews online. I would try it if it was $25-30 that it sells for most other places, but not for $40+.

Rant alert! Hit two stores and passed on it all. Unfortunately, it seems that my chosen stores for the day were staffed by idiots with little to no regard for customer service.

If you're clueless, just admit it. If you don't have time to acknowledge a customer and/or field a simple question...

...I'll just move along now...

Passed on a chance for a bottle of "Battlefield Bourbon". Something of a collector's item, I gather, with an interesting story and cause behind it. Interesting, but not at the quoted price.

Finally saw some Walking Stick bourbon but passed on it. Too much mystery there for me. Also passed on some Bookers at the amazing price of $39. Makes me wish I liked the Beam Funk.

Good call. It sucks and is violating TTB rules as it doesn't state where it was made. Tastes like JW Dant watered to 80 proof. Essentially as a general rule buy Oregon beer, not Oregon spirits.

I passed on a couple of store select FR SB (OESK and OESF). The price was $64.99. I realize that is becoming the going rate in many areas. However, I can go down the street and pick up the same recipes for $54.99. I am just not certain that I would find a discernable enough of a difference to justify the extra $10.

I didn't pass but rather missed out on Blanton's for $49.99. That is about $10 cheaper than most places in Indy. I will follow up with the store to see when they will restock.

A rye, but left the redemption 10yr BP on the shelf for 170. That to me is the height of insanity.

My wife and I were in Minocqua, WI this weekend with some friends and stumbled upon Northern Waters Distillery. They had a few spirits to sample, one of them being a new bourbon they had just released that they were refreshingly honest about. It was only a year old, 88 proof, aged in small barrels and used wheat as the flavoring grain. Sounded like a recipe for crap whiskey to me (not the wheat part) but it was actually pretty darn good. Very nice flavors and the usual harshness for something this young was hardly there. Perhaps the lower proof was working in their favor. IMHO if they'd give it a few years in standard barrels I think they'd have a winner.

I came thisclose to buying a bottle just because it was decent and I appreciated how upfront the guy was, but at $40 I just couldn't do it.

Believe it or not, that's not much above MSRP. I'm not a buyer either.

Should have picked up a handle of WSR for $40 while visiting upstate New York. I had never seen one before and hadn't realized that it comes in an enlarged version of the regular 750 ml bottle. Kind of cool looking actually.

The local WalMart stores carry the 1.75l of WSR for $33.50 and a lot of the WalMart stores I've hit here in Missouri stock that size for well under $40, so swing on down and visit MO and grab a few handles of Weller!

Thanks for the tip. That's actually not a bad idea, though I would never have even thought to look at WalMart for liquor! My wife and kids are currently in England which is why I spent the last four days in New York visiting family and friends. But for the fact that I'm exhausted and there's lots of severe weather floating around south of here, I actually considered heading to Louisville or St. Louis (the latter to catch a baseball game). Now I know where to shop when I'm in town!

Not all the WalMarts carry a good selection, they tend to stock based off local demand I believe. But more times than not they have a surprisingly good offering on bourbon. The one I shop at even carries Blanton's at a reasonable price.

If you head down to St Louis there are a few good liquor stores you might want to hit. If interested just let me know.

Not sure if I'm going to hit the road again in my few remaining days before the wife and kids return from England or just sit in my underwear and watch baseball. But if I do make it down your way, I'll definitely let you know. Thanks!

Passed on a new bottle to me called "James Henry Brand" Georgia Bourbon from a little distillery in North Georgia called Moonrise Distillery that I had never heard of. Apparently made of just "corn" according to the label and not a word about age to be seen. Has to be very young I would think and hard to tell what size barrels are being used (15 to 20 gallon at best?) looking at the website.

Having filled my quota for young pricey craft whiskey I decided to pass.

If a website is a window to the World that's a slick introduction that manages to say very little about the product. Am I the only one or does that label have a "Beamish" sort of look.

Passed on some good deals and some new products to the area. Saving money for fall purchases.

OWA for $21

Contradiction for $58

EWSB2006 for $25
