Passed on 2 handles of EC12 with the original label from 2011. Price was around $55. I don't dislike EC12, but it just doesn't do a lot for me.

Pure Kentucky at $29. The Johnny Drum PS is good but I don't feel the need to add a bottle, marketed a price point under it by the same company, to my collection or even another 107° bourbon for that matter with the current surplus of OWA I've got.

I had to search for Stagg Jr. 4 here in GA, finally found one at a decent price of $52.99. I'd have bought another but it was the last one they had.

Shelf-full of Stagg Jr. Batch 4 at $50 each. I love the stuff, but already have a few bottles of Batch 4 in reserve, so don't need to go overboard.

Passed on an EC23 for $229.99. I'd love to taste it, but not at that price.

I got to taste it at the Heaven Hill visitors center back in June. Damn good but hard to dish out that kind of cash for a bottle. Maybe if you and a buddy split the cost it'll be worth it.

No doubt they still have them because they're gouging.

Three bottles of W.L. Weller 12 year appeared on the shelf at my local store, $29.99. This has been a favorite of mine for years, so I was happy to see it on the shelf. I picked up one, went home, did a little bourbon research, and found out that this bourbon has been very difficult to find. I went back the following morning to pick up another bottle, all gone. Same thing for another store I frequent. I asked if they had any and the assistant said, sure, just got some in yesterday. We walked to the shelves, and he pointed to the empty space on the third lowest shelf. All gone. Unbelievable. Fortunately, they have plenty of Elijah Craig 12 year.

yikes, only 3 bottles? you might've posted in the wrong thread tho unless you're saying you passed on the 2 other bottles ;)

I probably would've snatched them all up at that price!

Yes, I did pass on the other two bottles by only picking up one at around 5:30pm. As I wrote, I went back the next morning to buy another and they were gone. Same situation with another store I went to hoping to buy another bottle, but someone bought all they had the day before. Bastards. This bourbon used to be available in a 1.75L for crying out loud.

I know... the craziness it's all come to. Altho, I'm probably part of the problem, since I only became enlightened about Bourbon 2 years ago.

I've been enjoying bourbon for about 20 years now. I had a bit of a hiatus from the latest and greatest offerings from about 2005 to now when my little ones arrived. Now, it's like the zombie apocalypse...the bourbon guy at my local store showed me pictures of his near-retirement-friend's "bunker" with cases, bloody cases of the Antique Collections and all the bourbons I would love to see myself and the new guys able to enjoy. Infuriating! Last time I was in their store as a regular, there were two rows of Lot B and other Stitzel Weller offering at damned affordable prices under $50. Oh well, now I'm finding gems in bourbons I used to overlook before, so it's all good in a way I suppose, but the hoarding factor sickens me as much with whiskey as it did when I couldn't find .22 or .308 a few years ago anywhere!

The largest of collections will return to the market someday via auction.

It's a bubble, like any other. Give it another 10 years and "the most bourbon laid down since the 70's" will all be hitting the shelves faster than we can buy it.

Oh for crying out loud... I can't believe how hard some shops are playing on this "Weller shortage" crap! I can't fault shops for applying the lottery concept to Van Winkle, BTAC, etc releases (although it still rubs me wrong and I don't participate). But for Old Weller Antique?!! Jeeeeze!

And on topic...

Passed on a local shop's offering of CEHT SmB for $59. Hey, Jefferson City is really just a "big" small town and when a cross town shop is stocking this at $40 it's a little nutty to think anyone who shops around at all is gonna pay that!!

Not sure how much outrage I can generate against the "bastards" that picked up the other two bottles you left on the shelf because if I had seen them then it might have been me! Indeed, you were planning to buy a second the following morning and would likely have bought at least two yourself had you known how "rare" it was when you bought the first one.

Bastards indeed!

Even here in "Weller country", I've seen stores asking $99.00 for Weller 12. It's ridiculous!

In the past year or two, it's gotten to where we go through a couple of months when you can't find it anywhere in the DFW area.

But once it hits shelves, it hits in force, and you can usually find it for a couple of months pretty easily.

The last time it disappeared, I found one store near me that was out of 750's, but showed 12 1L bottles in their inventory.

By the time I got there, someone had come in and bought eight bottles. I took three for myself. (gotta' leave at least one for the next guy)

Two bottles total versus the entire stock from at least two stores. I learned about the rarity issue after buying the first bottle and before I tried to secure a second. I don't recall petitioning anyone to generate outrage against hoarders...I am merely expressing my frustration with what has become a snooze-you-lose middle-priced bourbon world. Bastards indeed' date=' that is, until I get my second bottle.[/quote']

These days the "entire stock" a store gets might well be just 3 bottles! I can remember it wasn't that long you had crawl past cases of the stuff just to get to the other bourbon on the shelf. Sadly those days are gone at least for now.

I went poking around a couple of stores today to see what might be interesting and found there wasn't anything so I passed on everything and bought tequila instead. :skep:

Passed in IW Harper 15, Rhetoric 21, Barterhouse, OWA, and all the usual suspects. Prices weren't out of line just nothing I needed. I did hopefully get a shot at a bottle of EC 18 in the next few weeks
