Was at Four Roses doing a tasting, picked out 2 barrels (Store will get one right before Thanksgiving, the other won't be bottled/delivered until end of May or June).

Stayed in Luavull all weekend. While wife was visiting friends and family, I hit shady liquor stores, Liquor Barns, Party Stops, Evergreen Liquors etc etc. Probably 25 total. Didn't buy a SINGLE bottle of bourbon. Saw SAOS 11 YO and Single Barrel Cask Strength Rye. More SiB Four Roses than I can name. Over priced RHF. Overpriced Rhetoric. Some $55 Stagg Jr Batch 4. Didn't find a single bottle that struck my fancy. OFBirthday bourbon had come and gone. So had the REALLY overpriced Ky Owl. Did have a pour of each at the Brown Hotel. NEITHER, in my humble opinion, is worth the price.

... Some $55 Stagg Jr Batch 4. ......

I have seen batch 4 at one place here, $70.... $50 is our state min so I would be happy if I could find one for $55.

I picked up up locally a month ago for$52.99 which I still haven't opened. Otherwise I would have grabbed it.

I was in the Milwaukee area over the weekend and picked up some stuff but I passed on a lot too. For whatever reason, KBD products were significantly cheaper at several stores there than in central IL. I think I saw Noah's Mill for $35 and was tempted. I also saw Jim Beam White 7 yr for the first time ever (1 L bottle) but didn't pick that up. And my first sighting of WT Rye 101 for retail purchase but was only in 1.75 L bottles. My wife is very understanding of my whiskey purchasing but I feel a 1.75 L would have drawn a bit more attention than I'd like.

Not bourbon but...

I don't normally see WFE products (other than the 2 year rye that is their own distillate) but I came across a 7 yr and 8 yr rye for $89.99 and $99.99, respectively. In all fairness, these could be amazing bottles. But when SAOS SB 8 yr rye is $55 and likely from the same source, it is hard for me to justify paying 2X for WFE. I still like their 2 yr rye though.

Didn't have to pass it by because all of the $99 bottles of Blood Oath are gone. It just amazes me how fast some of these fly off the shelves.

Didn't you hear that it's some of the finest juice ever produced? That's what I keep hearing from the people I try to convince there are better options at a much cheaper price.

I picked up a bomber of beer for $12.50 today. I asked the clerk if he had any Weller 12 and he said he would get it from the office for me. While he chased after it, I spotted some Elmer T Lee on the shelf behind the other clerk so I asked him for a bottle of that. When the second clerk rang up my purchase, it came out to $187.50!!! I asked him how much the Weller 12 was and he said $80. I told him no way and then I asked how much for the ETL. He told me $95 for that one. I declined that bottle as well. I foolishly purchased the beer. I should have just walked out of there.

This happened in Bardstown today and I still can't believe they quoted me those prices. I had always had positive experiences at that store in the past and I'm really disappointed with how my visit went today.

name the store in protest so others at kbf know better?

I want to name it but I didn't want to come off as a hothead. I would like to think the owners don't know this kind of conduct is happening at their store and I would hate to trash them. But if you guys think it's appropriate to share, let me know and I'll spill the beans.

btw, I did get a bottle of ETL for $35 at Keystone Liquors afterward. It took some of the sting off my bad visit.

Waste of time, I think the Kool Aid interferes with their hearing.

You are correct and I've given up for the most part. I tried to be nice, but so be it. They can chase that and it keeps them away from what I want.

Kind of sad that they thought those prices were normal enough to not even mention the prices to you before checking out. Fortunately, I am well stocked with both Weller 12 and ETL at well under $30 per bottle, and won't need to engage in this madness for a good long while.

Received an email from my favorite whiskey shop today, who emails an entire list of people when something comes in, for Sweet Wheat at $35 and PHC9 at $105. I responded exactly 25 minutes later and missed out on both.

They also had EC23 at $250, but I wasn't interested.

Damn, that was quick. I wonder when NY will get its delivery of PHC9.

Passed on an EC 23 for $209. I've had EC 21 and it was too tannic and woody. Wondering what it would be like, but $209 is too much to spend on an unknown.

Passed on everything I saw today. Was on the road for work, stopped at a couple of spots new to me, smaller towns. One had a very good selection, but nothing I couldn't live without. The other was kind of weird - selection was of the JD/Fireball/Southern Comfort/Kessler's blended variety. And then a Jim Beam Distiller's Masterpiece for $205. One of these things does not belong with the others.
