I'll echo the others that RHF is worth it, IMHO anywhere under $50. Yes it is a bit unique, but I don't think there is much better bourbon out there at any price. I have several bottles of RHF in my bunker, and always have a bottle open. Just great stuff.

Walked by a bottle of Jim Beam Triple Aged at the local Supermarket - nothing special but for 15 Euros I was tempted...

passed on ETL for $50, Baby Saz for $40 and OWA for $40... all from another store that had decent prices before. W12 was $30 here 5 months ago... guess I won't see it at that price again at this store.

Passed on quite a few today. EHT Barrel Proof for 89.99 (I was tempted), Sweet Wheat 59.99, ETL 59.99. First time I have seen any of them

I've been seeing Maker's Mark Cask Strength and letting it stay there- and although I've heard it's good I just can't pull the trigger on the price, especially given the recent (maybe not so now htta it's been a couple of years) hub-bub over lowering the proof to meet demand. The cost per proof oz is much higher.

I've enjoyed two different batches of MMCS. I'd go for it at anything $55 or under. If you like bourbon, you'll like this.

Is that the MSRP for Sweet Wheat? I was hoping to try one, but thought it would be the same ~$30 price that the standard 1792 is at. I will not pay a premium for it.

ETL at $60! Enough of this nonsense. A friend of mine got ripped off the other day for $72 for a bottle. Liquor stores be warned: This is not the way to build a sustainable client base, you are ruining your reputation for a quick buck.

I think sweet wheat goes anywhere between 33 - 40

Thanks cclev23, that's more like it, I'd be tempted in that range. Sounds like our friend wandered into a pretty pricey store.…

Enough dumping on stores. I passed up Michter's barrel strength rye at around $75 if I remember correctly. Have had a few pours of a friends regular Michter's rye, enjoyed it so am tempted. What do you guys think, worth pulling the trigger on?

The store has a great selection, and is reasonably priced on a lot of their products. I can't blame them for charging what they do (supply and demand), they have a very quick turnaround with bourbon. Everything I saw today will probably be gone within a week or so. I blame the people that fuel the fire.

Fair point Golzee, and I've seen the same at some stores I normally respect around here.

It just irks me when standard releases get the markup that you'd expect of a very limited release, like a BTAC or pappy. ETL may be very popular right now, but it's far from limited. Wait and you'll find one at MSRP.

On the flip side I frequent a store locally which gets a pretty good supply of BTAC and pappy (at LEAST one of every expression for the last few years). They tell their customers when they think it's coming and start an orderly line the day of, and they sell it at MSRP. Some years I've gotten a bottle after ditching work and standing in line all morning , and some years I miss out. And you know what? They have a loyal client base. And you know what else, they have a thriving business that sells beer and wine to people who have earned their trust through behaving like this. They'll be around for years after the whisky craze is over.

Something to learn from. Or maybe I'm a bit naive.

Passed again on Stagg Jr. at $50 and Russell's Reserve 10 at $30 but will likely end up picking them both up this week anyway. Could've saved myself a trip!

Aw c'mom Hank. Which batch Stagg JR.? FWIW, and to my way of thinking, anything after batch 1 or 2 seems to be pretty decent. I can personally vouch for batch #3.

Cheers! Joe

I long for the days when GTS was $50/bottle. The sad truth is I thought $50 was a lot to pay for it. Don't get me wrong I picked up a few, but I felt a bit reluctant to spend that amount. Boy, have times changed.

In my opinion it's worth it. That's around the price I pain in KY last summer. And I've always found RHF to be a nice pour. When you can find it down here in GA it's now going for $65+. At that price I pass.

Rock Hill Farms at $48. Is it worth it?

I know exactly what you mean, Will. If I knew five years ago what I know now, my bunker would look entirely different. I too had the same uneasy feeling about paying $50 for BTAC's (those were prices generally reserved for single malts), but then I was buying Pappy 15 at the time for just under $40 so that extra $10 seemed exorbitant. Crazy, huh?

Rock Hill Farms at $74.99. Ugh. I can't believe that's the going rate now.

Also passed on a store selection of Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Single Barrel at $69.99.

I have seen a few bottles of RHF in Indy for $59.99 recently. Typically, WRDO store selects are around the same price as the standard version. However, I did see a store select for $69.99 this week.
