Passed on MMCS - 375ml @ $30.99 and the 750ml @ $64.99 . . . same store . . . ?!

I would have had to grab a pint to try as I haven't had it yet. They are $35/$60 state min here but the only times I have seen them they were $40/$70 or more.

I picked up a 375 while in KY around Easter and shared it with my brother while watching Final Four. While it was a decent pour, didn't like it enough to pick up a 750 before leaving. Spent the money instead on a few bottles of Very Special Old Fitz at the HH gift shop.

Left the airport in Punta Cana passes on 750 of WTRB (30) and 1L of BT (25). Probably should have grabbed the WTRB but I decided against it must have been sick from having to leave

I passed on the Smooth Ambler OS 7 and 10 year and the rye. Bought the 9 yr barrel strength.

Also passed on some CEHT small batch, Single Barrel, Barrel Strength 127.2?, and their Rye.

I wanted to bring all of these home with me, but I still have a mortgage to pay.

No. I know guys who get the entire BTAC and Van Winkle lineup at retail price.

That was in one store. Just happened to be the only store I hit while we were there. Their everyday stuff was reasonable.

Took a ride on the Harley up to North East GA this morning and slid across the line into SC. Passed on a $49.99 bottle of ETL and a $69.99 Blanton's. Saw a TON of 2002 EWSBs, but held off. Saw a couple of 108 proof WT Rare Breeds at $39.99. Almost pulled the trigger but held to my resolve to stop buying bottles until the fall releases come out and finish some of my open bottles.

A lone bottle of OWA for $99.99 at a place that had relatively fair prices on other stuff. Supply and demand is an interesting thing.

$35 is not gouging. A bit more than that? Yes. A good bottle of OWA is worth that.

state min in MI is $26 so $35 is more than I will pay. especially at a place with wholesale in their name or advertising state min prices

You get way to hung up on state minimum prices in Michigan. Who says they are the arbiters of what bourbon should cost? Why do you let them tell you what it's worth?

Completely forgot 2 bottles I saw and passed up yesterday. Stagg Jr. 132.2 at $149.99 and a Rhetoric at $169.99. Owner asked if I was looking for something and I said I liked Stagg Jr. but not at $149.99. He said "yes, that bottles costs me alot." Wasn't about to tell him that I know his bottle cost was about $60. Talk about gouging

Only because we have NO CHOICE!!!

It's 'State Minimum' ...or more. The State of Michigan Liquor Control Commission sets the minimum, and retailers aren't permitted to charge less; but are allowed to charge more.

Incidentally, if you think this system sux... You Are Correct, Sir.!

Passed on CEHTBP for 80 and Stagg Jr. for 50. Having a hard time but trying to limit my purchases to under 50 per bottle. Until I can make back the cost of a wedding

I do think that system sux, yes. I understand what you are saying, but I'm not referring to the low end. I'm talking about when a store has something a little higher than that. I've seen fozzy pass up desirable bottles of bourbon because they were above state minimum, so I'm asking the question, if the State of Michigan says that x bottle can be sold no lower than x does that mean that any price above that is ridiculous? Now I completely understand that if it's an always available bottle than can easily be purchased at minimum at another store that you'd pass on it if higher at this store. But if it's a highly desirable bottle like OWA and there's no guarantee you'll see it at another store period (much less at a lower price) than you need to set your own threshold of worth and not get caught up on state minimum just because that's what the state says.

That's just my opinion. Everyone else's MMV.

I simply refuse to support/condone them charging 40% more than what I paid for it at the same store a few months back simply because they know it's well regarded on the forums and social media, much the way I refuse to spend my money anywhere that has no guns allowed signs. It may be well worth it and I may never see it anywhere else cheaper, but I will be fine without it in my bunker.

Passed on Booker's 2015-02, $44.98 (on sale) and Stagg Jr., $44.99 (132.2) . . . both tempting, but trying to moderate my purchases.

I've seen a few "I need to moderate my purchases" comments around here lately. I'm still buying at a rate that well outstrips my consumption, but I think something has to give pretty soon. I'm literally running out of room. I mean, there are plenty of places in my house where I could stuff more bottles, but my wife, a very tolerant lady thus far, isn't going to look too favorably on the bedrooms or bathtubs filling up with bottles.
