TunnelTiger
A current post in a very old thread talked about buying a barrel of MM.So my question is if money was no object what barrel of bourbon would you buy?As for myself there are so many that I would enjoy but if limited to one I suppose it would be 4R. flahute
I'd like to take a moment and fantasize about a barrel of GTS or WLW............OK, that was fun.Since that's not realistic, going with what's actually possible to get, I'd agree with you TT - 4R would be an easy choice. I won't even specify a recipe because I'm sure a blind tasting of barrels would result in a pick I didn't expect.
GaryT
See - "Fantasy Barrel Picking" sounds like a lot of fun! FR feels like a gimme, but I would personally love to get a barrel proof, UCF Old Weller Antique (which would be along the lines of a WLW I suppose, although maybe a bit younger). TunnelTiger
OK 4R is to much of a gimme. In that case a barrel of OGD114 would no doubt be outstanding!
ramblinman
hmm, if it doesn't have to be a specific expression, I think it'd be a coin flip for me to do a sampling run through both HH and WT.But more specifically, I think finding a honey barrel of WTRB would be a lot of fun to buy. El Vino
OK, since this is fantasy land: my own barrel HH Wheated Mashbill Bourbon at barrel strength. Yep my very own Parker's Wheated at 15 YO.And if anyone from HH monitors these boards: I can afford it, so if you are a willing seller I am a willing buyer. Paddy
Considering that; the older the bourbon the greater the angel's share, I'd probably have to go with something in the 6 to 12 year old range. For old times sake, I'd probably split the difference and go with a 9 year old Wild Turkey. miller542
It's between a barrel of Beam OGD mashbill or BT #2 mashbill. I'd love to pick a barrel of barrel proof ncf OGD.
Golzee
Rock Hill Farms or a cask strength Basil Haydens
ccleve23
A cask strength J.J. Bowman.
fozzy71
Rock Hill Farms or a cask strength Basil HaydensNice choice(s). I havent tried RHF due to price considerations yet but expect I would like it as I like everything from that distillery, and I recall enjoying my bottle of BH but for the price:proof ratio I won't be buying another. DPPSmoker
I would get an 8 year old wheated bourbon from Heaven Hill and then finish it in a cognac barrel for over two years.
Richnimrod
I would get an 8 year old wheated bourbon from Heaven Hill and then finish it in a cognac barrel for over two years.....And bottle it at Barrel Proof..... :drinking: Oh Yeah!!!! squire
The question implies complete freedom of choice so I would pick the barrel that had the best combination of maturity and proof. Can't say where I would finish but I would start with Heaven Hill.
PaulO
A fantasy barrel pick would be a barrel of the older whiskey that B-F mingles into Old Forester Signature, or the oldest barrels HH puts into Larceny. Bottle it barrel proof and no chill filter. :pope: Maybe more realistic would be we go to HH and pick a barrel of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof. If I was selecting, I'd look for something that was a real outlier, not typical in a good way.
dSculptor
Fantasy picks....GTS, SAZ18,RHF....realistically...EC12 bottled at BP for sure.
Jazz Nut
Great thread! Total fantasy picks: GTS, WLW, Pappy 20. Semi-realistic (though not sure if this is even within the realm of possibility): OWA, W12, Bookers, MMCS Realistic: EC12 at barrel proof (trying to find a barrel that has a good balance of caramel, spices, oak, and creamy mouthfeel, that also doesn't get bitter when water is added).I don't have any experience in choosing a barrel in reality, but have been pleased with a few local stores' barrel selections. camduncan
I would normally have been going for any wheated barrel, but after tasting Bookers 25th, I reckon that'd be what I'd go for now, and try to pick something that came close.
jsrudd
I'd have to pick Blanton's. Blanton's SFTB is already my favorite bourbon and getting to select the barrel that matched my tastes would make it even better.

I'd probably be able to put a pretty good dent in a barrel of EC before my liver gave out. I'd like to catch it about 6 years in. I don't know that it would get up to 12 years at my house.
