Anyone know how pricey these are going to be?

An eclectic line of one-of-a kind expressions, Distillery Series pushes the creative boundaries of whiskeys to the extreme. Each selection is masterminded by Master Distiller Chris Morris, and is only available for purchase at the Woodford Reserve Distillery, beginning July 30 and while supplies last.

Double Double Oaked

Double Double Oaked is the result of finishing mature Woodford Reserve Double Oaked for an additional year in its second, heavily toasted lightly charred new oak barrel. The extra year in the barrel creates a bourbon that is distinctly spicier than its original counterpart, known for its sweeter taste and finish......

Sweet Mash Redux

Sweet Mash Redux, with prominent fruit and herbal flavor notes, is not new to Woodford Reserve, who in 2008 released Sweet Mash Finish as part of its Master’s Collection series. While traditional Woodford Reserve Distiller’s Select is a sour mash bourbon, modifying the fermentation process to include a non-soured mash creates a bourbon of higher pH effect and heightened fruit notes throughout.

A) they won't be cheap.

B) they won't be very good.

This is my prediction based on no factual information. YMMV

So should we assume that this is replacing the WRMC? I asked WR on twitter and they have yet to reply. Probably pissed at the comments I made about their tour guides.

The giftshop-only aspect is a change from the WRMC, but that's probably a good strategy for them considering how poorly the WRMC has sold.

Make it and they will buy it rests on the same fallacy behind build it and they will come.

Well, WR got back to me and said that this is not replacing the WRMC. That will continue.

LISTEN to Flahute!!! He is clearly a wise and sagacious person. Save your wallet, and space in your bunker, for something you'll like.

According to their Twitter account, these will be $49.99. They didn't say what size the bottles wil be though...

Woodford tends to draw a collective yawn around here. I'm guilty of it, too. I also look over its head to everything else out there.

While I can't say I'm a fan of their special releases, I do like the standard Distillers Select and the Double Oaked. In my opinion their efforts would be better spent concentrating on those 2 lines. If they're gonna do something else, dump these odd profiles and look into possibly finding those prime aging locations in the warehouse where they could rotate some honey barrels and do a once a year release of some single barrel bottlings.

I agree with this guy. I actually like regular Woodford and Double Oaked. I'm not saying that they are in my top 5 by any means, but I think they are very respectable for what they are. As for their special releases, they are definitely hit or miss, and its usually a miss.

I find WR decent enough, but their pot still shenanigan B.S. leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth.

The pictures in the article from the link in the OP are clearly 375mls. So basically the same cost as the WRMC bottles. Didn't get to try the Masters Collection version in 2008 so the sweet mash redux sounded kind of interesting but is a good deal less interesting at $50 for a half bottle.

Woodford might get me excited if they actually showed us what they can do by releasing something 100% distilled and aged at their distillery, aged 8-12 years and bottled at BP. They talk a big game, but all that comes out of there is mixed with Brown Foreman bulk, experiments and finished crap.

I expect they would if they could. Those hybrid stills are like mules, they can pull a plow but can't run a race. Unfortunately Brown-Forman's efforts to produce a stand alone product there have been less than stellar.

It seems like the most successful "experiment" to come from Woodford Reserve is that you can put Old Forester in a fancy bottle with a fancy name on it, and people will pay 50% more for it.

The early Woodford was considerably better in my opinion. I still have one bottle of the Henderson stuff that I'm reluctant to open. I enjoy the new stuff, but it ain't on par with those early years.

I totally agree, and I think OF Signature tastes better than WR too (regardless of price). I find regular WR tolerable, but it tastes like Old Forester plus copper penny odd aftertaste. I've noticed their LE stuff sits a long time in stores, and gets no love around here.

Doesn't move around here as well although there are those who really like Woodford. Not really Bourbon savvy folks, (at least among my acquaintances) but you have to respect the tastes of others.

When Woodford first came out a friend of mine made it his house Bourbon even though he wouldn't touch Old Forester with a pole because of an unpleasant experience back in college. Claimed he could smell Old Forester in a mixed drink if someone tried to slip it in on him. He really liked the idea of the old fashioned copper stills at Woodford though.

There is a big difference from the copper still WR versus the WR of today. I am drinking Lincoln Henderson's batch 16 right now. If I'm not mistaken it comes from one distillery, before they started blending from two different distilleries.
