Busy as balls today but finally just sitting with a shiner on the back patio on this fine 80 degree day.

It's been a very long time since I had one, but I did always like the Shiner Bock.

Tried Maine Beer Co. Lunch IPA for the first time. I don't know if it lived up to the lofty expectations, but it was enjoyable.

I had a super fresh one a few months ago that blew my mind.  Just got some Pliny and that was meh... I bet fresher would have been better. More variation in the beers I suppose.

I haven't had a beer in years but today for the Superbowl I am. Nothing fancy just some Samuel Adams Boston Lager.

I rarely drink beer and usually stick to a few favorites. When I branch out, I usually base my choices based (admittedly aribtaritily) on places I've lived. Today I'm celebrating my time in Michigan with some Bell's Winter White. It's hitting the spot.

I drove to Grand Haven, MI to attend the Hazel's Nuts release at Oddside Ales.  Hazel's Nuts is an exceptional bourbon barrel aged imperial stout with hazelnuts added.  I picked up a case for myself and one for a buddy.  They are absolutely delicious.

I really should go out for a run.  Or, I should get on the bike.  Or at least, I should take the dog on a walk.  But, it's too damn cold out, so I'm just going to sit here and drink beer.  This cold Pilsner Urquell is the only cold I want right now, and I'm thinking I made the right choice. ;)

I haven't had a Pilsner Urquell in years, I remember liking that one a lot.  Might have to put it on the list now that summer is here.

It's a solid beer.  I swear that the bottle used to be green, though.  These are brown.  Anywho, very crisp and clean, with a nice touch of maltiness.  Gary Gillman speaks of getting this beer insanely fresh in his neck of the woods (Toronto), and that it really shines when fresh.  Not sure where the bottle I have falls in there, but it was really enjoyable and hit the spot perfectly today.

The bottle was green back when I drank it and I am only now seeing brown bottles in a Google search. TW&M is still showing it as green, I guess change is coming to us eventually.  I considered it one of the best lagers available to me at that time.  It's on my shopping list now, thanks for the reminder.

Last ones I saw of PU were 16 ounce cans!

We were out to eat a couple weeks ago. They had a nice beer list and a good selection of drafts, (I loves me some draft beer), and a great list of seasonals from local breweries. The one that caught my attention was from Madtree out of Cincinnati. It was a stout, chocolate and raspberry in flavor, called Rubus Cacao. A very nice, creamy, flavorful, slightly bitter winter time beer, a real treat.

I found it in the store today, enjoying one right now. Almost ready to have another.

Once I was in Windsor Ontario.  I walked into one of their state liquor stores and found it about half emply and sold out of many brands.  The clerk said come back later, they're getting a shipmrnt.  Well, I got some really fresh Pilsner Urquell.  I finally found out how it should taste.  Before that, it just tasted really average to me.  The stuff in the Indiana stores must have been sitting around.

Spring is here and summer will arrive Sunday (92 degrees forecasted. :o)  I am switching from porters and stouts to Dos Equis Amber and Shiner Bock.  ;)

Paul, I think Gary Gillman mentions that some that he has picked up are within a week or so of being produced??  Sounds like you may have sampled some as similarly fresh.  Yum.

I'm taking the edge off tonight with a bottle of Short's Superfluid IPA.  It's about as dank as they come.

A beer-thirty, end of a tough workweek, just finished my run, and sittin' out on the front porch on a beautiful day here Down South...Heineken.

I rarely drink it anymore.  Not, for any particular reason, but there are just so many beers now days.  But, I can remember 30+ years ago, a couple of years out of college, nice paying first job, more than $3 in my pocket, and out on the town with the beautiful Mrssmokinjoe, this was my "I'm a big-shot" brew.

So, lessee...I'm a little smarter after 30 years, on my much better paying second job, even more than $3 in my pocket and some in the bank despite 17 yo  Littlesmokinjoe's best efforts, Mrssmokinjoe may be even more beautiful, buuuuut still not a big shot, though the Heineken still feels rich.   ;)

Know what you mean Joe, 30+ years ago it was Heineken for me as well.  Of course back then that was pretty much the only option in our neck of the woods.

Tallgrass Brewing Co. Pub Ale this evening.  Poured straight down the middle of the glass kicking out a lot of the carbonation.  Pretty good rendition of the style, this one works better for me without all the bubbles.

Finishing off a few Leinenkugel snowdrift vanilla porter.  I think it's a nice porter that's not to big so I can down a few after a hard day's work and not feel full.

:P

I'm trying to think Squire, was Michelob about it for other "upscale" beer choices, then?  Maybe, a few other imports like Grolsch?  Lowenbrau?

In the late 1960s in Germany in the Army clubs, Heineken  was 20 cents a bottle.  We ignored it, mostly, and drank the local beer.  The local beer (Bad Windsheim) came in liter bottles with fliptops and cost 30 cents; they released a new batch each Tuesday.  It was delivered to our rental house by the case.  RE: domestic "premium" beers in the flower of my youth, National Premium out of Baltimore was popular here, but Michelob was hard to find.  Imported beers we could find easily were Amstel (without the "Light"), Lowenbrau, Beck's, Carlsberg (particularly the Elephant), Guinness Stout, Harp, and Newcastle Brown Ale.  Pilsner Urquell was a treat, but I only remember it from bars (we could drink beer and wine at 18 in WashDC back then).  Nowadays, my basic year-round are Devil's Backbone Vienna Lager and Boston's Noble Pils.  Winter is local (Port City and similar close-by producers) porter.  The Whole Foods near us has an incredible selection as do most of the in-WashDC liquor stores so like my bourbon stash, I have many more than I could drink at one sitting.
