Ah, got it. Now that you mention the stoppers,  . . .

Yes, indeed, a little off thread, but . . .

With a little "search" effort, you should turn up a couple threads from earlier this year about screw caps vs. corks vs. fat corks vs. regular corks vs. decanting. Lots of us, apparently, have a box full of bourbon bottle corks, screw tops, etc., in case of emergency.  In addition to empty bottles, I, for one, like the Container Store 16 oz. "Retap Water bottle" for decanting.  I've never had one break, and they are good for holding aperitifs when you need to free up space.

OH, and don't do what I did and try to reuse a gin bottle for bourbon decanting.  I have no idea why I tried this in the first place.

Ah, got it. Now that you mention the stoppers,  EC is one of the worst cork situations I know. First, the backwards slope makes it hard to pull. Then there's the concept of how fat it is, it just seems to allow for more shrinkage. If you're not careful, an EC cork will dehydrate and become too small for the bottle. And then there is the problem of breakage. I've had two corks from EC bottles just plain break and need a corkscrew for removal. And then I've even had a EC cork plastic top wholly remove from the cork leaving it behind.

Then of course usually it's  fine. But suffice it to say, maybe the worst cork out there.

Ditto that.  They suck. Makes me worry about the long term storage condition of my 1.5 cases of EC 12 year.

Put down the PHC Wheat whiskey last night.  That was a good pour.  Lasted almost two years, so can't complain that I didn't milk it for all it was worth.

Polished off a standard KC this week.  I try to keep two or three Beam's open at a time around here, so I'm thinking I may need to hit up the bunker and dig out an old PS KCSB to take its place...:P

Been knocking them down this week. ETL just hit the bin. Last half of the bottle was good after starting out very meh. (Still not worth the hype and inflated prices). EC12 gave up the ghost. HMcKenna BIB. Russell's Reserve SiB (Two of them!). And..........a '14 GTS

The purge continues.  1792 Small Batch store pick hit the bin last night.  I have a Full Proof Small Batch Single Barrel Private Store Select I wanted to move up to the starting rotation in its place.

Finished off a bottle of Stagg Jr, the 132.2 proof batch. Really fantastic stuff and I look forward to opening another bottle one of these days. Next up will be the 129.7 proofer I have in the bunker. But I'll try some other things first.

That's a mouthful. I guess we can call it 1792FPSBSiBPSS. :)

Recently finished off OF 1897 and MMCS.  I enjoyed both and will purchase both again in the future.  These empties allowed more space to crack open my first Eagle Rare PS and a Fighting Cock 103, 6 year.  Both are off to a nice start.

I finished off a Blantons store pick last night.  It lasted about a month.

A 1.75L of KC went into the recycling bin today. It had a screw cap on it and I had to relieve it of the burden.

Sent this fine soldier to the recycling bin today.  Queued up taps first of course.  He served with dignity, visiting the gazebo table one last time before coming home to finish his journey.

Booker's 2016-01 to the bin last night. It was a good one. A little different from the typical Booker's profile to my palate.

Finished a 2014 4RPS from State Line Liquors. It was the first FRPS I found so I held on to it longer than normal. Next victim will be 4R Secretariat in the next few weeks.

finished off a Store pick OWA and a KC store pick.  Needed to cause I had to decant a '74 WT decanter and a '72 Ezra Brooks decanter I picked up.

I managed to finish off three more bottles in the past couple of weeks. At least I had a little help with a couple of them.^_^

HH6 yr old BIB. No comments needed here. I didn't realize that there was only one small pour left in that one.

My 2016 Weller Blend from the Sampler. I've been nursing the last of this one every since the Sampler. I shared this one with Vosgar and our buddies in the local cigar/whiskey group we have.

Wild Turkey Russell's Reserve 10/101," Paul's bottle". This was a bottle I took to the KBF. There wasn't a whole lot left in it after the KBF. I shared this one with our group here too.

I only have five bottles open right now. I'm trying really, really hard to pare down my bunker. No really, I swear that I am. But, and FWIW, I did purchase a couple of bottles of a ps Weller SR Sunday. What's a mother to do?

Cheers! Joe
