Sent a bottle of Johnny Drum and OWA to the little green bin in the sky. Have a feeling a few more will be falling soon as they have very little remaining. Usually that would make me upset, but I need to make room in the bunker because I am starting to run out of room with all of the fall releases that have been acquired recently.

Finished off a low-fill bottle of Rare Breed (112.8).    Kinda stretched this one out for a few extra weex.    Just seemed to hit me really well.   I think I have 2 of 'em left in the bunker.    Hope so.

Finally finished a bottle of Pinhook, that I had to add quite a bit of OS to it to make it taste good enough to finish it. Not to good.  image.jpeg

Get an OS instead....

HH BIB and another Barrel Whiskey Batch 001.

OMG, ANOTHER Barrel Whiskey down the chute?  Seems to me you are finishing about one a week - at least two a month.  I just HAVE to find a bottle and try it.

Before I pull out the Baby Saz to continue my rye sojourn, I finished off a store pick 4R OBSK 52.6% 10+yr (well,Ifinished th last 2.3 oz. or so) with a little warm water while the CUBS beat the Indians.

Harry, I've switched up into 'rye mode' (even though the weather hasn't caught up with me yet), and I'm eagerly awaiting your report on the 'rye sojourn'.  See you in the what rye are your drinking thread!

P. S. That BW is pretty easy drinking!

Killed off a KC2001 last night and while it's OK I wasn't sorry to see it go - it kept reminding me not to chase mediocre bottles

I both drank and killed off a HHSS #2 last evening. A great bourbon from beginning to end, and glad I still have some in the bunker.

A 12 year, 3 month, PS OESV (118 proof) and a PS WTRRSB.  Both went down in a glorious finale this evening!

I had about 1 oz. of the OESV and had planned to follow it with the last 3 ounces of the Turkey.  But, a better idea presented itself and I channeled my inner Harry (didn't want to get up in the middle of game 7), so I ended up emptying the dregs of both into my glass then added just enough water to drop the proof a point (or three).

The nose is leather, white pepper and honey drizzled ripe fruit.  Upon entry, it is as expected a bold, richly refined and flavored, complex conundrum of 'the best' of both houses... with a great lengthy finish!

Why the hell did I not think of this sooner?  :)

Finished out a Master's Keep tonight.  This was an interesting

bottle. Not what I have come to expect from WT. The usual rye spice and comforting caramel really is not present to me. This bottle was Cherry, 24/7.

Cherry Cola,. Cherry Cordials, Just Cherry. To my palate. There was another note always present, but I was not able to nail it down.

Overall, a distinctive bottle.

Definitely terrible stuff.    I have no idea how they can get any more than a buck or two for an entire bottle of this stuff.

I'd tell everybody you know to leave it all on the shelf.   Just awful stuff.    I mean panther-piss for sure.   Save yourself... DON"T BUY OGD 114!!!!

Soon we won't even be debating as to the quality of OGD 114 now that the greedy sob's at beam have decided to pour this brand in another bottle and charge $50 instead of $17.

YUP.    Sad days for those of us who have enjoyed the great quality, and relative bargain price (at least until recently) for the brand, eh?    Not that I begrudge Suntory/Beam the right to maximize profits    That's why do what they do.    I hope they re-invest much of the windfall and come back with some great Bourbons for us in the future, though it likely won't be really soon, as the tight stocks of aged product will continue for a while yet.

Your right as I am a believer in capitalism. It just sucks. Fortunately I have 2 cases to keep me company for awhile.

Ah, you are wise and prescient, sir.     I don't know if I have twelve; but I'm sure I have at least nine, and maybe one or two more.     ...Not to mention a half-dozen or so OGD BIB with the orange cap, to help drown my sorrows.

Finished off a 1792 SiB last night. Was a good pour. May not run out to buy another right away, but I'm sure I'll snag one in due time.

Picked up this bottle in 2012 and finally polished it off. I'd always tasted that Beam "funk" but after reading others reviews on here about getting a peanut taste that's all I can taste now. I get a distinct roasted peanut shell on the finish. The power of suggestion?  My wife thinks I'm crazy.

I don't think you're crazy at all.  I quite like the KCSB.  On the other hand, the peanut shell thing is way too much for me in the Beam ryes.

If The Wife says you're crazy', I'd go with that.    But, I too, get some of that 'peanutty' undertaste in most Beam products.    I note from only my own experience that it diminishes a little with proof and a good deal with age.
