Apparently it's been a "finish off the Four Rose's bottles" kind of holiday season. Took care of the last of a couple of 2015 private selections, an OBSQ and OBSF (both of which were aged 11yr 2mo). The killer though, was the last pour tonight of my 2008 Mariage. Being a blend of 13yr 5mo OBSV and 10yr 10mo OESK, this was one amazing bottle that will definitely be missed

Gary, Jim Rutledge told me that was his favorite of the small batch line the year the 125th was released(2013). So his comment didn't consider the 2015 but still high praise.

Killed a bowman bros small batch tonight. Good drink but won't be rushing out to snag another. Too many other good ones in the 20-30 price rang ( I'm looking at you er10, BT, and owa).

After a couple of beers, I switched to whiskey and started with some russel's reserve rye single barrel. I then had some eagle rare. I finished with what I thought was going to be a 2 oz. pour of Buffalo Trace but then I was so close to killing the bottle I figured I'd finish it. I must say, the diameter of the family size bottles can be deceiving. My bottle killing pour just may have defeated the nosing purpose of the Glencairn. I'll sleep well.

That's quite a pour alright.  Did you wake up?

EW BiB white label bit the dust, it was a loyal soldier serving honorably in mixer duties this Christmas season, RIP.

Ha! I couldn't finish it. Saved about half of it for the next day. Discretion is the better part of valor and all that.

Finished off a bottle of Wild Turkey Diamond this evening. Thought it was decent/above average, however it did not seem to hold up as I got closer to the end. I see why they are still on store shelves.

Just finished up a bottle of 2015 Michter's 10.  It's taken me a whole year to finish it.  Enjoyable bourbon, but other bottles took priority.  Not in a hurry to open another bottle.

It was goodbye to an OGD114 today. There were only 2 oz left and I felt it was my duty to prevent a debilitating oxidation from occurring. There was no sense in saving it in that it's disappearing from the shelves in the bigger bottle shops in the KC area. There may be some gathering dust somewhere in smaller stores but there's no sense in worrying.

Poured the last drop of another EC12 tonight. Great news is there are plenty in the bunker to replace this. Bad news is, I can't replace those that are in the bunker any more.

Killed a bottle of Breckenridge I bought this summer in Estes Park. Surprisingly nice for a fairly young bourbon but, as usual, pricey. Not sure if there will be a replacement.

1792 FP hit the bin last night and will be followed by a 1792 High Rye - no need to replace yet as they already had backups

Had quite a journey with this bottle of EC12, (AS on the back).

IMG_5218.JPG

One of the first I bought along with a BT when first branching out from MM 3 or 4 months ago, initially I thought it wasn't for me and figured it would live it's life as a mixer. I put it aside for a while as I continued to try different bourbons, and as my palate expanded I revisited it to find that it had begun to offer me more and more flavors that I wasn't picking up previously, many of which I can now identify but still don't have the vocabulary for. (As someone who's only really been at this seriously for 3 - 4 months, I sometimes wonder if I need to start licking leather jackets for reference...)

I feel like this bottle and I matured together, and I eventually bunkered several AS bottles (both back and front) that I now have great expectations for when their turns come.

I have no idea how to place pix; but I'll at least mention the poor lonely soldier that bit the dust last night in a valiant effort to keep my 'spirits' up through the waning hours of 2016......

Heaven Hill Select Stock (SB.com pick #2) succumbed late last evening.   Sad to see it slide into history.   A great pour for sure, right to the end.    (I could never be sure; but I thought I heard the sound of taps being played ..... gently.)

 I couldn't find an emoticon with a tear.  But, I know the feeling with this pour.  It was quite special.

Finished my first bottle of Rebel Yell 10yr SB watching football this afternoon. I have to admit I was slow to purchase thinking this release was just overpriced/overhyped junk from Luxco trying to cash in on the crazy bourbon market. Man was I wrong and glad I have many more to replace the bottle lost today.

MM46CS from a trip to the gift shop earlier this year.

Sad to see it go, but glad there's another hiding around here somewhere.

As the holiday extravaganza comes to a close I've gathered all the casualties from the past two weeks for a group photo.
