I was very lucky to snag a bottle of this when it first arrived in the UK at retail. It is amazing. Enjoy!

A good friend snagged me a bottle of Nikka Whisky from the Barrel on her way back from Japan. I remember liking this quite a bit when I tried it a couple years ago - hopefully it hasn't changed!

I have had bottles from several different sources and time periods and all have been excellent. I suspect this will be as well!

Good to know, thanks Bruce! From what I can tell the proof hasn't changed over the years, so I imagine they're shooting for some consistency in their profile. It is the WT Rare Breed of Japanese Whisky in that regard, I suppose.

I had a bottle a couple of years back and it was nice stuff for sure.

A bit above my usual budget (as in a lot) but found one of these left having ummed and ahhed when it was released (and sold out). Convinced the wife to get it as a Christmas present... Springbank 21 XOP single cask - 54.5%

Cheers all!

Certainly looks good! if you got a cask strength single barrel for the same or less than the OB Springer 21 at 92 pf, which I think now is probably north of $300 (I stopped looking because it was depressing...) then you probably got a pretty good deal!

I picked up the new Compass Box "Deluxe" 3 year old today but it was way more than I had expected (or hoped). Also makes me concerned about the cost of the Spice Tree Extravaganza.

It was actually a few pounds cheaper than the standard 21, though with delivery (was online) it worked out the same, seemed like a good deal to me!

Independent Bottlings of Springbank are fairly rare.  I've passed on a few that I probably should have bought back when they were fairly inexpensive.  The only one I currently have is a Duncan Taylor Dimensions 18yr that the LA Whisky society rated as pretty mediocre.  I got it for an okay price though, so I figured it was worth a punt.  I don't necessarily find my tastes to be in alignment with those fellows, and you never know how a bottle will develop as air has a chance to work it's magic.

I must admit I've not seen any reviews on it nor am I likely to but I think it's a safe bet. I knew passing on it originally I'd feel like I wished I hadn't so I didn't the next time it popped up.

Will be Christmas before I crack it though. I shall report back.

Spent the last few days in the Big Apple and was able to obtain a bottle of  cask strength US East Coast 2016 Machir Bay from Kilchoman. Excited to give this a try.

Spent the day dusty hunting, which was mostly disappointing - only one "dusty" pick-up in 20+ stops (the CB Eleuthera).  But took a Laphroaig 18yr at $90 as a consolation prize (not a killer bargain, but cheap enough to make me feel obligated to take it home).

187 bottles of it I think, so not really enough to go around...

Picked up an Exclusive Casks Bladnoch 25 @ Total Wine's new Corridor location.  Holy crap is that place nice.  Very worth checking out if you have been skipping TW for a bit.

Mrs. JVD99 just presented me with my annual whisky advent calendar from MOM.  This year it's the cask strength one, which I'm looking froward to because after a few years of doing these, the standard advent calendars get repetitive and are filled with stuff you've sampled before or are readily available in stores.  I like the idea of the cask strength one as every pour will be a one-off (edit: some will be OB cask strength, and some will be IB singles casks at cask strength - I think - trying to resist finding out exactly whats in the box).
