2 of these are excellent...having the Fiji tonight and it is excellent. The Bourbon barrel finished Mhoba is a bit oaky for me, so it may appeal to some here. It's only very good.

This isn’t my favorite Cuban rum by a long shot.   Interesting smokey peat thing going on..

Brought some interesting bottles to the liquor store for the employees to sample— the Caroni was an unexpected hit, and now they’re chasing the ether.

Like getting someone hooked on coke lol. I always wanted to try one of Luca’s picks.

Now, this is interesting… it was a struggle to haul it home, but very glad I did.

Not gonna lie it took me a while to work my way through this one. It’s funky and offensive in the best way, has all the trappings of a good Jamaican, but there was also something rough about it that made it uncomfortable to sip, I would sometimes pour a glass and finish it over 3 nights.

Sounds like something a little water could fix.

I tried it every which way but couldn’t find a good solution. The issue is not so much the ethanol burn (lots of burn it has, but that’s easy to tame with air and water) but some aggressive unpleasant wood bitters going on? Bitter, tannic, and somewhat chemical tasting…

It wasn’t terrible by any means, just had a few too many off notes for my tastes, enough to make me reach for the Smith & Cross instead.

Sounds like a bad batch to me, Hampden is normally pretty consistent.

Thrasher's - made right here in Wash DC by Todd Thrasher who made his mark here as a mixologist/bartender/whatever.  His rums are similar to El Dorado products.  He also has a coconut rum (80 proof) that is worth searching for.

We're going to use it in cocktails tonight for our 'happy hour" to use up fruit left over from a fruit dressing on a cake.  Recipe is straightforward. Put leftover fruit (melon, cherries, blueberries, and some raspberries in tonight's mix) in a blender and pulse.  If you have about a half cup of stuff, strain it and reserve the liquid then rinse out the jar and put the liquid in it.  If you are short, put in more fruit and pulse to 1/2 cup.  Strain and then put liquid back in the blender.  Add two ounces of rum (or tequila) and ice cubes then pulse until you get about a cup of stuff in the jar and the stuff is like slurry.  DRINK.  For two drinks, double all those measures.

Brought a Foursquare Isonomy home last night. Have only had a small taste but so far a very good impression.
