stopped by Binny's at lunch today and found some ETL, CEHTBP, WSR and HPR (Hancock's President's Reserve).  never seen HPR before so I decided to pick it up for $50 along with ETL for $39.

Definitely wasn't the Oak Brook Binnys.  Nothing of excitement there.  I've been on the look out for CEHTBP.  haven't seen it around these parts yet.

Nope, def not.  Do they got a high roller's room?  that's where it was in the HP binny's.  Schaumburg does this crazy thing where they hide bottles in the back and only get it for you if you ask, kind of why I prefer HP, they have it out there for you to see.  Maybe just gotta ask the guys at Oakbrook if they got it?

I passed on the CEHTBP because I have last year's and it's not good at all, while I do love the SmB and SB, this was all heat and no flavor.  And at $80, it's pretty pricey.  Might have just been a bad batch last year, but I don't wanna spend another $80 to test that out ;)

While on vacation in Breckenridge, stopped by the distillery and grabbed a bottle of their port finished bourbon.  Didn't even know they were making this stuff, and it had only been bottled a week ago.  Can't wait to give this a go!

uploadfromtaptalk1469234157656.thumb.jpg stumbled into this today while grabbing wine for the wife. Interesting it's small batch but single barrel select.....does that mean it's from a single barrel, or a small batch of select barrels?

I believe a single barrel. They just slap the sticker on so they don't need a whole new label.

I say open it tonight. See if you like it, and if you like it more than you like a twenty dollar bill, but as many as you think you will want for the next few* years. Because that seems like a great price, and single barrels come and go.

*few being very subjective based on who you are, and how certain you are to be still enjoying it at that time.

jeez, $20 for the store select 1792??  I'd def grab a few more.  I really liked the store selects that they had up here and I grabbed a few to bunker up on, and that was at $30.

I was headed to the beach and stopped to get something for a few days and found ETL for $41. A little pricier than at home but I'm in DE so no tax. Took one and left one on the shelf. Passed on CEHTBP at $87. I have one open at home and a backup so felt OK leaving it even though I don't come across it that often.

This was a lottery win for Virginia ABC. $70. I used to be able to find these releases at local ABC stores without much trouble but now they've switched to make it more "fair", whatever that means.

Not exactly a "dusty" but found a EWSB 2005 vintage store selection. It was just less than a month shy of the old 10 year standard, as opposed to the 2007 botttles next to it, which were around 9 years.

Picked up a bottle of the 'new label' David Nicholson, just to compare it with the 'old' one.    It has been a pretty young, pretty nondescript, rather single note kind of dram; but I've used it to good effect in vatttings with some over-oaked disappointments (the first of the recent Old Forester releases, 1863? or some such thing, which I found nearly undrinkable).   Anyway, I scooped up one to see if it's changed any with new label.    I understand from my retailer the next batch to ship in Michigan will be about 5 or 6 bux up from the $20 ripoff for which it now sells.

Wow! It is like $13 pretty much everywhere here in Missouri. This is the 100 proof former BIB, right?

I just had a glass last night. It has a pretty distinct profile to me. I don't know anything about it. It has a funk that reminds me of WT funk, but doesn't taste like WT either. I don't know the mash bill either. Does anyone know if this is a wheated bourbon?

Yeah, Michigan is kinda high on most things.    Not the highest nationwide; but above most others in the Midwest.    I think DN 1843, 100 is indeed a wheater, unless the mashbill has been changed.   ...And, who knows?   It very well may have.   It's not like Luxco has been forthcoming about much throughout it's history

I bought a bottle of Wild Turkey Rare Breed.  I look forward to comparing it to Bookers and other higher proof bourbons.

Stopped into a small wine shop while visiting some clients north of Chicago - picked up a few bottles of rose when he shop keep asked if I liked bourbon...I do...he then asked if I would be interested in a Willett 23 year bourbon he had in his basement taking up space. Little pricier than the Rose, but an interesting find none-the-less. Bottle has a sticker on the back that calls it "the brown bunny"

Went to a High West tasting yesterday and tried four of their offerings - liked all but the single malt version.  Everything I tried was a blend as I believe most of their offerings are but I have to say they were tasty.  I wound up coming home with a bottle each of the three I liked.

Ha...saw this new label DN at 2 smaller non chain stores here in northern burbs that have much more limited bourbon selections than let's say a Binny's. So it surprised me they were even at these type of stores and then stunned they were priced at $49.99...yep! Seeing at 2 stores at that price leads me to believe price is set by the distributor too.

Nothing today, but haven't been posting lately, but several in the last month or so.  In order of price, Booker's Rye, 2001 Knob Creek Batch 1, 4R Elliot's Select, 1792 Full Proof, a JB Single Barrel store elect, and Ezra Brooks 90 proof.

Just joined the board, recently picked up an ETL, Stagg Jr. (Batch 5) and was gifted a Willett Rye (3 YO).

I also snagged at 10 year Van Winkle from Total Wine a month or two ago.

Had to scratch a bourbon itch while out shopping and picked up a SAOS 10 year, and the new 1792 Single Barrel.  I like both, but am very impressed with the SAOS 10 year---it's not overoaked, great weight and mouthfeel.  Based on how the bottle opens up, I'll have to grab a few more bottles.
