You sure it wasn't the CS version?  That's still high, but less ridiculous.  The last 18 I bought cost about that.  Admittedly, that was a few years ago . . .

Not trying to start a panic or anything, but I've recently wondered if B-S was going to start fiddling with Laphroaig prices.  It wouldn't shock me to see the Select at $50, 10 at $75, and 10CS at $100 eventually.  The 10 is still a great QPR deal in many markets, and we all know what B-S has been up to lately . . . Personally I have tried to stop buying their products whenever possible, but I don't expect anyone to jump off that cliff with me.  They make great malt, bourbon, and rye, and they unfortunately know it.

Nope it was 43%
They had the QC for $66. Four Roses Single Barrel for $71. I think they just suck at pricing lol.

I passed on Yamazaki 18.  They store had it priced at $599.  No thank you, I will not pay triple the retail price for it.

Well, maybe double. If you can find it at all these days it seems to be going for at or close to $300 these days on the low end.

Went to Argonaut in Denver for the first time and passed on everything, save a bottle of Mezcal for my wife on her birthday.
Most notably passed on Springbank 17 Sherry for $165, G&M Connoisseurs Choice Ledaig 16 for $74 (may be back for that) and Craigellachie 13 for $39.99. Would have bought the Craigellachie 13 if I hadn't just got one yesterday.

If you like Springbank and/or fully sherry matured whiskey at all (and you can afford it) then you should run, not walk, (or better yet drive quickly!) back to that store and get that Springbank 17 Sherry wood bottle (presuming this is the one you saw)before someone else sees it mentioned here and buys it. That is a pretty decent price for it as well.

I first tried it in 2015, thought it was excellent, and went back and got another! I will be sorry to see the second one go.

I was very tempted on the Springbank but didn't really have the budget for it. If the Whisky Gods are kind to me it will still be there next week. Pray for me.

It has been out for awhile and was generally well regarded so I am a little surprised it is still on the shelf unless they have released more of late.

I'm sure it's just a straggler.

I have an ongoing list of bottles that I've passed on and intend to return for.   I haven't bought any of these bottles before.  Today I saw Macallan 12 for $49.99(cheapest I've seen).  Others include; old label Talisker 10yr $55.99, Balvenie 15yr SiB Sherry $99.99 and Lagavulin Distiller's Edition $103.99.  I've been passing on a lone bottle of SpringBank burgundy 12yr as well...might have to pull the trigger on that tomorrow.  I loved the sample I had, but it's $30 more than regular 12yr CS.  First world problems

Screw the budget, I went back and got it. Thanks for the motivation!

Passed a full shelf of Hazelburn 10 Rundlets & Kilderkins @ $112

They had 6 bottles, perhaps their full allocation. What do these shops do with the limited releases that just sit on the shelf for years. Anyone ever seen a shop try and blow them out at a reduced price?

Occasionally I have seen something like that get marked down but usually they hope some whisky nerd (like me...) will come along and buy it all!

Come with cash and make an offer to whoever is in charge.  I've landed a few nice deals on good bottles that have languished on the shelf

Passed up a lot of stuff today, but the most interesting passes were Amrut Two Continents and Amrut Spectrum.  Spectrum I want to try, but I'm not plunking down $165+ for a bottle.

I have been thinking about Spectrum just because it is so unusual but $160 is a big ask although not surprising these days. Especially given all the hoopla about it when it first arrived and the relatively limited nature. Probably will suck it up and take the plunge if I get an opportunity to buy at or near retail.

I typically try to do local bottle splits with Amrut and Kavalan.  The Vinho Barrique is available from the same store for $245.  Don't even see myself doing a split on that one.

Passed on this interesting Benriach today at $129.  Doesn't seem like a bad value for 19yr cask strength.  My only experience with BenRiach is the Heredotus Fumosus 12yr.  It's a lovely contrast between smoke and sherry.  I ended up grabbing another Flaming Heart 15th instead of the bottle above, but I'm wondering if I should go back.   I just looked at Binny's website and they have the same cask #....must be spread thin in our region.IMG_0707.thumb.JPG.f474f300905add633616ba896885379f.JPG

I bought the Kavalan Vinho Barrique (it is very good) when it first came out for more like $140. As much as I liked it I have no interest in another either at the current local price of around $250. I shall savor the last bit and then move on to greener pastures. Or is that browner pastures that require less green?

I see what you did there ;)

I've also been passing on Kavalan due to price. Just before it started being imported into the US I bought a bottle of Vinho Barrique in the Taiwan airport duty free shop for something like $120. It was truly delicious, but fond memories of it will have to suffice because there's not another bottle in my near future.

It seems the follow up to the long lamented Macallan cask strength has hit the shelves. Now called "Classic Cut".

5a04dbc56cb9f_MacallanClassiccut1.jpg.e7c22d60b03dd699e1bd45683da68439.jpg5a04dbc895873_MacallanClassiccut2.jpg.c8f3437bbaa53c5384229e3d41fd0fa0.jpg5a04dbcb66ad2_MacallanClassiccut3.jpg.62b7db1d4af385f822f09e31ccedb42b.jpg

NAS and not entirely clear to me if it is uncolored and non chill filtered. Aged in casks that have been "seasoned" with Oloroso sherry. Hmm. Not even sure if that is really barrel proof although if it isn't it is a bit of an odd proof to use.

So I was reluctant to take the plunge at $90 without trying it first given that Macallan can tend to priced in part on the name on the bottle rather than what is in the bottle.

Anyone tried it yet?

The couple things I read/watched said it wasn't barrel proof, but was uncolored.

Ah... Macallan releases SO MANY nondescript expressions that they are losing my business solely because I can't be bothered to read up on what is what.

Aaaand passed on the Classic Cut for $80, hope it wasn't a mistake.

It does say no coloring on the box, but nothing else.
