That's batch 11. I've heard it's very good one. I purchased one today. Can't wait to try it

Nice! I just grabbed an OWA and an ECBP Batch 11 today, at retail.  My current Batch 11 is almost gone, and I've always enjoyed OWA,

2 RHFs and a Barrel 009 thanks to a fellow SBer who gave me some great advice on where to hunt while I'm TDY.

Saw my first bottle of Stagg JR in a store today. So I bought it. Have been keeping my eye out for it here in TX for a year. Finally paid off.

I managed to get a bottle of ORVW today.  I suspected they'd be taking delivery today of their allocation of BTAC/Van Winkle and got there well before opening.  It ended up being me and three others in line and the store staff let us in an hour before their regular opening time.  They only received 4 bottles of ORVW and 2 of Lot B 12 year old.  They were disappointed by the lack of higher-end bottles and not looking forward to calling the bars they supply.

Pickled up a Booker's 2106-03 Toogie's Invitation batch based on the vanilla and caramel bomb tasting notes.  Looking forward to opening it on Christmas.

got shit on with a local lottery tonight. 300 people hoping for 13 bottles of a range between VW10 and PVW23 - ended up with an overpriced old medley 12yr as a consolation prize just for kicks.  and to make the trip and time worth it, added an el dorado 21yr rum to the mix. love the complexity of the flavor in that stuff.

Picked up a McKenna 10 yr and OGD114. Two reminders of why I initially started exploring bourbon after mainly drinking scotch — both are just incredible values. Too bad about the rumored demise of OGD114. And, I  unfortunately can't help but think Mckenna 10 yr is either going to meet a similar fate or see its price rise at some point.

My local retailer obtained a barrel (#3658) from Smooth Ambler and had it bottled at full strength.  Anticipating its flavor as good as any Old Scout I bought a case and find myself disappointed.  At 58.9 ABV it is too hot for my palate and didn't take water well either.  It is clearly Old Scout but no better than the regular bottles.  So I'll finish the bottle I opened and peddle the rest of the bottles off on friends with stronger tongues than mine.

Since it was local, why not buy a bottle, see how it is, then go back for a case if you love it?  Well, lesson learned I guess.

Anyway, here are a couple tips that might help you enjoy the bottle.  Pour a glass and let it sit for at least 20 min before drinking it.  I find that this helps to "tame" higher proof or "hot" whiskies.

Also, many times a bottle will change as you move through it.  I have found bottles that were just okay at first become great later.  Also, ones that I didn't like initially, get better as I move through the bottle.  Also, if this was the first pour from the bottle, definitely give it another chance, I find that most bottles change somewhat after the first pour.  I can get an idea about the whiskey from the first pour but I will always have an additional one or more before rendering judgement.

So, you may not want to peddle those other bottles off so fast.

I wish you luck and hope it improves for you.

Thanks meadeweber for those comments.  I will give it a try.  The reason I bought the case is 1) I have high expectations for Old Scout, 2) my local shop has a good track record of obtaining single barrels and 3) I expected this to sell out quickly which it did.  The Four Roses single recipe barrels he has obtained in the past (OESF and OESV) have been heavenly.

I agree with Meade.  Another option is to use these bottles in blends.  Sometimes, mixing a BP bourbon with a lower proof bourbon or rye (e.g., BT, EC NAS, Ritt BIB) can yield great results.

My liquor store came thru today and showed appreciation for being a valued customer.  She comes thru with at least one of  the Van Winkles each year  for me. It's great to have this relationship and pay retail prices.  Not 12 miles away I saw a bottle yesterday priced at $140 and I passed on it.

FINALLY found an OWA on the shelf (well, behind the counter)! The clerk laughed when I actually said "woo hoo". $21.99

I can find it pretty regularly around here, but never at a price that low! I think the best price I've found was $23.99, but it's usually somewhere between $25 and $30.

Yes to all of this ^^^  ....especially with SAOS and four roses.  New bottles are tough.  I'm rarely impressed @ first pour - even with stuff I know I like.

Got a bottle of RY10. I'm headed back for the other three bottles tomorrow. Great bourbon.

Managed to find a bottle of 1792 High Rye today. Looking forward to giving it a go and seeing if it is worth capturing a few more for the bunker. With any luck, I am hoping it has a little Four Roses OB spice and kick to it which would be awesome.

A few more EC12 for $25 + tax while they're still available. Also grabbed a WSR for $20 since the new bottles are apparently coming soon and I might like having more of the old ones around.

Grabbed a private selection of non age-stated EC. This is the first one I've seen - I'm curious if the EC barrel program is back in full force or if it is more limited than before.

Was out on the road for work today and found a lonely bottle of ECBP batch #12 for $54 and 2 bottles of EWSB 06 that were 9.25 years old. All made the trip home with me.

Seems that even the 08 EWSB (that's only 7-8 years old) is drying up around here and HH will probably move to 09 stock soon.
