Managed to find a bottle of 1792 High Rye today. Looking forward to giving it a go and seeing if it is worth capturing a few more for the bunker. With any luck, I am hoping it has a little Four Roses OB spice and kick to it which would be awesome.

Got to taste it last night and it's worth it at least to me - not as much spice or Rye "bite" as I expected but very good anyway

I did something today that I never thought would happen.......

I bought Booker's x9 at $45 each at my local Costco. It's long been a favorite, and with the reputable sources saying it's being allocated and going to $100 next month, figured I better get it while the gettin's good. It was $40 there a few weeks ago and they had a pallet of it. Probably 30 bottles left today, and as I stood there debating how many to buy, people kept walking by and grabbing 1 or 2, most of them hearing the same thing. At $100, I wont be buying any in the future. I can kind of understand their logic, but I think it will be a mistake on their part. This, combined with KC losing it's age (something they adamantly refused to do years ago), and OGD 114 biting the dust.... Beam is going to take a public opinion thrashing in the bourbon enthusiast community. I doubt they care though, as they make their money on JBW and it's non-enthusiast crowd.

So, in the last month, Ive bought 10 OGD114's, 9 Bookers, and 4 kc 9 years. so long, beam

Spent some stupid money today, which is always the kind you never expect to spend going out.

Was going to just get a nice bottle of Cabernet for the t-bones tonight.

Spotted he Parkers 24, and then the FR LE 16. We'll, wasn't going to take a pass on that, especially the Parkers.

But, I'm not complaining.

It is interesting that Costco's price increased by $5 over the course of a few weeks.  Similarly interesting is that you observed people already clearing the shelves.  I assume this Costco is in KY.  Is this correct?

Nice, that was the one you needed to keep the collection going, right?

yip. The new one in central louisville. Their price is usually $45, but they had it on sale a few weeks ago for $39.99. today, it was back to regular price. Even the cashier said they were told it was going to $100 next month.

I also couldn't pass up the $21 WTRR 10 year 90 proofer while I was there. Never had it before, and it was their last one, so I grabbed it.

Correct.

Like the rest, it will be opened. Makes me wonder if it will stack up to the 27yr. That was a powerhouse of a whiskey.

Same here, looking forward to trying the two side by side when I crack the 24 bib in a couple of weeks over the holiday.

I don't think I have ever seen whiskey on sale at the Costco's in Indy.  The WTRR 10/90 was $26.99 IIRC.  They carry WR, JB, WTRR, MM, EC and Bulleitt. Occasionally, they will bring in something short-term like OF1920 or Breckenridge.  They bring in a lot of new and different scotch and wine offerings.

Over the course of this week:

8 @ OGD 114, at $25 and $27 per bottle.  I have 11 total at the moment, I might buy a few more if I can find them at this kind of pricing.  I have enough to last me a while, now that I'm on "personal allocation".  Sad to see this one leave the market, it's one of my very favorite bourbons, and has been a screamin' bargain for years.

1@ BT Bourbon Cream, $22.  I bought it out of curiosity, and I really like it when compared to the various Irish Cream liqueurs.  Need some amaretto and Frangelico to mix some cream cocktails.

1 @ ETL.  I paid $42, but this was an exchange for a leaking bottle of KCSB, which the store ran out of.  I was surprised to see the ETL on the shelf.

1 @ Hochstädters Rock & Rye 100 proof limited.  Because I'm curious.  At a party I threw last winter, my guests polished off 90% of a bottle of the regular 84 proof version...

I'm now in a bunch of Pappy/BTAC/PHC lotteries.  Dunno what I'll do if I win.  Pappy continues to underwhelm me (except for my old bottle of Lot B, and the VWFRR).

I keep passing up OGD114 at $21.99. I know I should grab a couple but I keep finding other stuff. Bought a bottle of BT Bourbon Cream last weekend for $19.99. That stuff is sooo good. Wife and I have been enjoying it. Bottles is almost empty.

Grabbed 4 Booker's (1 Bluegrill Creek and 3 Off Your Rocker batches) at $55 each, before the price jump next year, and another bottle of a fantastic Belle Meade VaABC Selection (Barrel 2051).

I'm really digging the RY10yr SiB so I bought three more. Also brought home an ECBP 139.4 for good measure.

Four Booker's @48.99. One Bluegill and three Toogie's.

ER @21.99 on sale. Was surprised to see it on the shelf at the ABC as the website said they had none. Owner says he doesn't put it on website to reward customers who come into the shop. That was an eye opener.

Also got a Mount Gay XO on sale for $40.99 to feed my new rum dalliance.

Wandered into a small liquor store in my old neighborhood yesterday evening. I used to frequent this place a lot for their BT store picks. Left with two store picked OWA 107s for $30 a pop. More than I used to pay several years ago when I lived in the area, but what the hey. The only other place I've seen OWA recently was asking $40, not store picks. I passed on those.

(G)ot the email from Total Wine saying that I had a limited window of opportunity to buy Pappy Van Winkle because I'm a Grand Reserve Member. It was available at one particular store. I got there about 3 hours after the email went out. They were sold out. They had 45 bottles total and sold out in about 30 minutes after the email went out. I guess there's a lot of Grand Reserve Members out there who live or work close to the store. Being a member at the highest level guarantees nothing.

Got the same e-mail and picked up my ORVW10 ($79.97) and PVW20 ($209.97) yesterday.  Guess I'd rather be lucky than good - or live in the right place.   It was another great day!    ;)
