I'm trying to expand past my normal go to's and decided to grab a bottle of OG114 and SAOS 11yr SB, based on the feedback here while I had the opportunity. I also snagged a backup bottle of 1792 High Rye.

Henry McKenna 10YO BIB SB for $25.99 from a local chain . . . absurd!  How do they do it?

Barreled on 9-12-05 . . . cheers!

Finally found a bottle of Rebel Yell Single Barrel 10 year today. I've been asking around for a month and most stores didn't even know what it was. I got lucky today, a store had been holding one for somebody and I guess they never came and picked it up, so they went to the back and got it out of storage and sold it to me...$53.99 plus tax, but that's in line with how Booker's is priced around here relative to the current SRP.

Got a bottle of bookers to try since the price is going to go up. It's not bad but it sure is hot!

Sip more slowly and resist the urge to do shots.B)  I know it's tough, but with practice . . .  How do I know?  I've felt your pain many more times than once.

I like to open a new bottle and let it sit for about 15-20 minutes and close back for a couple of weeks and then get a pour. Even then, I might let it sit for another 15 minutes before drinking. Sip slow and it will grow on you. If all else fails, add some water. Cheers.

Definitely go slow with small sips, nothing wrong with adding a few drops of water at that Proof.

Interested to hear your take on the OESF.  I passed on a PS of OESF a couple weeks ago as I had never had that recipe on its own.  I hear it described as "fruity" and "minty" which I'm not sure is up my alley.  I like things a bit richer, vanilla, oak, etc.

Per that thread on Jos. A. Magnus bourbon, I did as promised and bought one 750ml (#161 of 504) of JAM's Cigar Blend Bourbon.  It was released locally last week and hit the stores in WashDC yesterday.   Tasting notes will follow shortly on the "Tasting" sub-thread.

Having tasted just a little already (maybe a tablespoon's worth) in the quiet of my own home on an empty stomach before lunch, THANK YOU ALL, especially Nancy who blended it, for letting me use you as an excuse to buy it.

Went in to talk to my guy about the ORVW and Lot B he is holding for me and walked out with this and another Blantons for now. Have to wait until he brings my bottles over from his other store. c04b96162b06dddce4fdd63c3a33f4a5.jpg

Anyone who hasn't read Nancy's post on the J Magnus thread absolutely should. Very interesting & inciteful. Also read the article link within.

I ended up loving the  SAOS 11yr SB that I picked up yesterday. Hands down one of my favorite pours of the year. Knowing that time is limited on the line and that the 11 year batch seems to be anomaly I headed back to buy a few more. While I was there I spotted the buyer and asked if he had any Rebel Yell 10 as it seems like it's a hit here, and he offered me up a couple of other highly sought goodies. Feeling really good right now.

I think you mean "insightful." I usually don't proofread forum posts, many of which are typed with thumbs and subject to aggressive autocorrect, but "inciteful" when referring to a high priced NDP in a fancy bottle with an interesting story has quite another meaning from what you likely intended. Nancy's post and the linked article are great. I'm trying the triple cask tonight and hoping it is to my liking.

Bought a bottle of RY 10 SiB today from my go to spot. First time I've seen this on the shelf here in the Carolinas after it being recommended in numerous threads here. Excited to crack into this and experience what everyone's been talking about!

I found a Weller 12 for $59.99 and bought it. I know I over paid and am kicking myself for being making a stupid purchase but it's one of the bottles I've been looking for for quite awhile. I passed on it at a different store that had it at $89.99.

That's not so bad.  Especially for something you really wanted.

I'd of probably done it too...just for the scarcity.

You could easily pick up some overtime or use some Christmas money to pay for this bottle and the heck with it.  If you enjoy it, then its money well spent!

At least you didn't support some scumbag on craigslist or spotbottle charging $125.

Thanks for the tip.  I might have missed that thread without your post.  It was great article.

I couldn't agree more.  I spent all summer chasing different barrel #'s of 10 and 11 year single barrel old scout for the bunker.  Since I'm weird, of course I had to dig through them to find bottles that were labeled by "Sarah", lol.  She has the nicest handwriting... :D
