In opposition to the current state of NAS and $100 Booker's, I went out and picked up some dusty budget champs:

1x FC103 with 6-year age statement.

1x VOB with 6-year age statement (out the door for $11.16 including tax).

2x OGD BiB with the orange caps (tip of the hat to some of you old-timers : )

Take that, Beam Suntory!

Suntory:  "Arigatou, for helping clear room for new higher priced OGD , Kepler-san."

Beam:  "Hell yeah!!!  You go boy !!!"

So, should we call you Rain Man or Monk? ;)

Does that make you a bottle stalker or a bottle labeler stalker?

How about "consistency connoisseur" ?

We all know Sarah picks the best barrels...  They will also be worth way more than the "James" bottles in a couple years when I sell them on the black market for massive profits...:P

Good strategy.  I will have to look at my bottles to see is I have any "Sarah's."

I have a SAOS 7 and 9 SB bottled by Sarah,  she knows what she's doing for sure.

I checked my bottles.  I have three but all are store selects and there is no name on them.  I am not sure if that makes a difference. I do know that I have had a bottle or two with Sarah's name on them.  I have never heard of James.  But, he is not Sarah.    I want Sarah's signature on my bottles too!

Maybe that is why I didn't enjoy my SAOS. Mine was a James bottle.

I picked up another Knob Creek gift set with the age stated bottle and two nice rocks glasses. The price of the set is cheaper than the bottle alone, it has the age statement, and the rocks glasses are great. The rocks glasses have taken their place in my bar next to my Four Roses rocks glasses.

Picked up this "on sale" at a mere $87. I hope it's worth the price. Mine is specifically batch 4.

Have you checked out the comments in the Magnus thread in the Premium Bourbon forum? Fantastic post by the woman who blends the JA Magnum whiskeys and link to a great article about her. I received it as a gift, and while not necessarily in my wheelhouse, found some things to like about it.

Had much better luck with the Total Wine membership priority access to allocated bourbons for the BTAC release and scored a Weller. (Got shut out with the Van Winkles last week.)

Also snagged a handle of KC with the age statement still attached.

Went for a bit of variety -

OGD BIB

Henry McKenna 10yr BIB

Smooth Ambler Contradiction

Has anyone tried the Contradiction?  The guys at my store really liked it.

I ended up picked up 2 FRSiB and 1 CEHT SmB.  The FRSiB were $27.19 each and the CEHT SmB was $37.39, after a 15% discount, so I couldn't pass them up.

bought one from each of the 3 basic food groups. One bourbon, one rye, one single malt whisky.

The Contradiction is interesting.

Smells fantastic.  Can't keep my nose outta the glass.

Taste is not quite as good as the smell, but its different and interesting.

Probably won't buy another once mine is gone, but I am enjoying it.

I found it to be surprisingly enjoyable and tasty.

Is it worth the money?  Isn't all "craft whiskey" somewhat overpriced?

I don't feel like I got ripped off, but it wasn't a bargain.

Thanks 0895. I opened it today and had a couple pours. You can definitely enjoy the smell. The taste with the newer and older bourbons is unique.
