Saw it/bought it for the first time last Tuesday. $50. Tried it with a splash of water. Liked it.

Last night, while eating pizza, bit my tongue bad (as in, blood). First impulse was to go for Listerine, but then I remembered the SJ. Antiseptic and analgesic. Worked really well and I'm considering keeping it in the bathroom.

If prohibition ever comes back at least we know the Stagg Jr. is safe. Verified medicinal uses!

That's a good one! I often think about bourbon when i'm pouring listerine into my mouth in the mornings.

We just got Stagg Jr in Iowa and I was lucky enough to grab a few bottles, at the grocery store of all places. I really like the stuff and at $49 a great buy. I hope we get to buy it year round.

This is supposed to be a year round release but it will probably go the way of FRSB in Iowa. There won't be a big demand for it and they will cancel it in a year.

The following ad appeared in the April 28, 1902 edition of the Salem, Oregon, Daily Journal:

So, keeping a bottle of whiskey in the medicine cabinet is an Oregon tradition!

I tasted the Stagg Jr at a local bar about a month ago and thought it was pretty rough. But I revisited it a few nights ago found it to not be so bad. They still had some 2012 Stagg on the shelf and had just got in the 2013 Stagg, so I compared all three and followed up with the 2009 Stagg when I got home. Made for an interesting blog post.

Thanks Mike for your notes with comparisions between the different Staggs.

I've seen Stagg Jr as low as $44 and Stagg BTAC now at $90, around here, so it's really a half the age and half the price proposition.

Great post Mike. I also found myself loving the 13 Stagg, but didn't have any others handy to do a head to head. Even so, I suspected it was going to come out on top. I love Jr for what it is too and think it's a great addition to the lineup. I find most barrel proofers are better after they're open a bit and the edges start to round off, and even more so for young ones.

Didn't pick up a bottle of the Jr when it was availble due to some of the negative comments on this board. Now I wish I had so I could have compared it to Stagg13. my two dealers only got a couple bottles each and they are long gone.

Well, it tastes like *good* Buffalo Trace at barrel proof. I'd be more curious as to how it compares to the CEHT Barrel Proof.

Picked up a Jr. It may impress me more as it drops down the bottle. For now I thought it a bit hot. Rather simple. Could use a bit more sweet complexity to balance it off. I figure a 50/50 with Knob creek would do it nicely.

Stagg Jr is travelling north of the border. LCBO has just listed it for the eye popping price of $85.

(for reference, 18 bottles of 2013 Stagg Sr were recently available at $120, while the 2012's sold at $100 back in February)

I'm snoozing at any price above $29. YMMV

That would translate to $40-45 in Canadian liquor store terms. I'd try one at $45

But I don't think I have seen it for less than about $45 (maybe $40?) and usually it is more like $50 in this area (which means Kevin gets to sleep late!). Has anybody picked it up for less than that?

At $45 or so it seemed worth a try. So I presume in Canada it would be around $55-60 at a minimum? But $85 seems excessive even for Canada!

Seems more has rolled out in tiny waves into both KY and TN. Walked into a store south of Nashville, chatting with the staff and they explained they had a mystery case show up last week. They didn't bother with any fancy raffles, put it on the shelf and watched some very happy customers smile their way to the checkout.

They had no idea root cause of the late arrivals, but assumed the distributor held some back to push just before xmas rush.

Guess they gotta do something with all that AAA 10 yr and OC 10 stock.?!.

Funny thing is, i don't begrudge them for releasing more Stagg Jr...i just wish they'd educate their staff and distributors better. A few stores when asked answered "1 time thing", but clearly the press release noted occasional releases. Still not sure why they "surprise" stores with product as it seems a real inefficient way top move product.
