I do look at the reddit whiskey network every now and then, but comment infrequently. There is a "sorted by" option either at the subreddit level ('new' so you see the most recent posts at the top) or within a post you can sort the comments as well.

I think the drama was simply because of the wording from Preston Van Winkle when declining the AMA:

"Due to the extremely limited nature of our products and all of the buzz around our brands we aren't granting any interviews at this time. We simply cannot afford further exposure. Thank you for your understanding."

 

The mod claimed this was a BS reply and would have been fine with a terse 'we aren't granting any interviews at this time.' I kinda see his point, but not sure it needed to spin up into such a shitstorm. But eh, 'tis the internet.

^^^^^Van Winkle can only go down from their present position.  An interview would do nothing to help them, while allowing for the possibility of negatively impacting 'the image' (by taking some of the mystique off the brand) a bit.  Particularly for a brand that will never meet the consumer demand for their product.     

 

Mystique and a good product (as well as good marketing) garners attention, and have served them very well.  If I were him, I'd punt too...

I would love to see these made available at auction for charity similar to the OFC.  Even if it was a 50/50 split.

 

I am not going to get one but it would be great to see the "wealth" shared.

I have a very similar box, it came with a Van Wink branded decanter and I will say that it is very nice.  Having this to sit next to it will likely be a pipe dream.

Okay sports fans, the Va ABC has 10 bottles of this and they'll start the lottery registration on 5/10 at 0900 ending on 5/12.  Interesting side note they are requiring pre-payment from the winners before they ship the bottle to your local store.

LOL - I can afford it, but saying it's certainly nowhere near worth it - for $1800 let alone $10,000!  The only reason I see someone buying this is to either flip it or display it - they'd be too afraid to actually drink it.  I have yet to see one review of the juice anywhere.

Would I pay $10,000 for this?  No!  Would I trade 5 or 6 bottles of PHC 1 or 4 for this?  No!  Even though I could do both.

 

This is just crazy.  I've seen one in the wild.  I didn't ask what they were asking but I be very surprised if it wasn't $10,000 as the store that has it knows the secondary market too well.
