flahute
Another OGDBIB cold out of the fridge, this time in a rocks glass from the freezer. Oh yes........I do like this. This will slow down my consumption of HH6 BIB until I get back to the motherland to stock up on more.

Old friends gathered. New friends were made. And damned if I didn't spend 30 minutes of my life trying explain distillation to troyce and I'm still not sure the pertinent facts were conveyed. Anyway, great time all around. Highlight pours were to ND OGB BIB, VW eye, Gold foil WT12, and PHC Cognac finished. After that I lost count. Neither really, I had the CEHT BP first and it seemed really hot at 128.1 proof, then had the Stagg Jr. and it was enjoyable at 129.5, so I went back to the CEHT BP for a second small pour and it was equally enjoyable. I would probably take a few other equally or more available barrel proofers over them (Bookers, ECBP, JD SB BP for sure). The Stagg Jr. is certainly a better value at least in my neck of the woods, I paid $80 for the CEHT and $50 for the Stagg Jr.

That being said, I've become quite good at cooking steak at home now.

One should ABSOLUTELY cook (or order) his/her meat done in the way they most enjoy eating it. Anybody who disagrees with that statement is being narrow-minded, and likely snobbish. Same for folx who try to tell other folx how to enjoy their libations. Many of us enjoy our Bourbon neat most of the time. That certainly does NOT constitute any sort of a 'rule' about how anybody else is expected to enjoy his/her Bourbon. Personally, I don't always drink mine neat. I like it over a cube once in a while, or with a little water sometimes. But, if anybody wants to drink his Pappy 23 with Mountain Dew, that is his/her own decision. cdcdguy
I have to say, this is one of the best bourbons to come along in the last couple years. I little water needed. Worth the money.
Clueby
I did the "pick left or right, shelf #, bottle #" thing again. My niece picked. It paid off tonight.
Jfletchgu
Currently sipping on wt101 after trying a pour of ET 354 bourbon that i found still sitting on a liquor store shelf (it was discontinued in 2014).

HoustonNit
I have my Frenchy father-in-law in town. Not a bourbon drinker but a drinker with a palate I respect. We seem to be on the same page. Had Blanton's which he thought was sweet and didn't care much for. Following day had Weller 12 which he really liked. Had some WA107 tonight followed by a barrel pick of Elijah Craig from Poison Girl bar which he also both really liked.
flahute
Lost a dear friend to brain cancer today. It was a long battle and we knew this day was coming so I had a chance to make one last trip back home to visit with her and her husband while she was still alive. So I drink EC18 and George T. Stagg as a toast to her remarkable life that touched and helped so many people. Life is short friends, and you never know when it will turn on you. Hug someone you love every day. Stay in touch with old friends. Drink those special whiskies because you can't take them with you.
Paddy
Steve, I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. Cheers to great friends, great memories and good times had! May her memory be as everlasting, as I'm sure her life will be.
Richnimrod
So sad to hear of the loss of your dear friend, Steve. Those lingering battles with the dreaded disease are so hard on friends and family, and so rarely it seems are ever won. Letting the mind wander back over the good times and the well-lived life of a lost one, over a pour (or two... or more, if that's what it takes), is a great way to begin the grieving process. My condolences to you and her family and other friends.

For some reason don't seem to like the EHT that much compared to ER.
Radioyada
I just finished a glass of Stagg Jr. batch 6 (132.5) that a good friend provided me. He is well on his way to having a fantastic supply of great bourbons to drink, and now I get to choose from my stock to deliver a sample from that he has not tried. smokinjoe
It's been awhile since I've gone to the Woodford Brandy Cask Finished (forgot where it was...), but sipping on now. I love this whiskey. Huge fresh baked cake and icing nose thst is nothing short of spectacular. Well rounded and full to taste. I've written before of my admiration for this whiskey, but I am now even more impressed. Just delicious.
