I buy faster than I can drink or share. The overflow to the floor and my wife have indicated it might be time to stop buying bourbon for a while.

It all started in 1987 with that case of Michter's 101 from the distillery...

Very impressive. Even if you can't drink it all they make nice gifts. I gave several bottles away over the holidays myself.

It's a great feeling to be able to gift someone a bourbon they will never be able to find. I give away several bottles of Pappy, GTS, etc. every year. Those are the big names, so they seem to get the best response from people.

I also have no trouble getting my bourbon drinking friends to attend my parties.

I'm just good at finding the hard to find stuff, so the numbers don't seem to go down too much.

Agreed. Gifting is especially nice if you know the recipient is

a drinker who will open it and enjoy; not "save" for the future.

I gotta say that when I see an amazing collection like jfw's, it reminds me that there was a time when ultra-premium whisky was an infrequent and expensive splurge (relative to the market) and not an automatic buy because it can be flipped or bragged about. And that acquiring large quantities of a single label (even an annual release) was probably considered more obsessive-compulsive than enthusiastic.

I imagine most of the folks on this forum are bourbon/whisky enthusiasts for a couple years then move on to something else. While I am envious of jfw's collection and wish it was mine in a very bad way right now, I'm not sure I have the commitment, enthusiasm or patience to assemble a stash like his over time.

Props to the true Bourbonians. May I be persistent enough to join your ranks in the distant future.

Jheeeeeees, docbible & jfw , you guys definitely have disposable income..... or is that consumable income? We all wish we had friends like you guys! Very Impressive! Those kind of collections are the kind that can be handed down from generation to generation. Here's my humble collection: I do like to have more of mine open than closed.
