I don't have any good pictures of my bunker, but I do keep this list fairly up to date (minus 2 or 3 bottles that they don't seem to have in the databse): http://whiskybase.com/profile/garbanzothegreat/collection

If I kept all of my bottles out where my wife could keep tabs on quantity, I would probably get my credit line revoked :(.

Interesting webpage. Did you have to create that or can you import an excel spreadsheet or some other type of spreadsheet directly into it?

I did that manually. I know you can export your list as an excel spreadsheet or CSV, but I don't know of a way to import. Let's just say I enjoyed a few drams whilst creating it.

Thanks. It is fun to look at but having to manaully add all the bottles I have would take more than a few drams! The number of bottles of whisk(e)y alone has drifted past crazy into the freakin' insane territory according to my friends.

I would likely only try to do it if I can find a way to import the spreadsheet I already have!

Yeah, I figured it'd be best to start before my collection gets out of control. Still, I think it's a pretty neat way to virtualize my collection.

Bruce,

I've found that it's only crazy to those who you aren't sharing with. ;)

If you want to catalog your whisky, check out www.cellartracker.com. I've been using it for years for wine and recently noticed that there is a "spirits" category and nearly all the bottles in my collection had already been added to the community database. Took about an hour to add 100 bottles.

  • 2 weeks later...

Re-arranged the cabinet yesterday when it was all out, so took a family photo. Then took one of the bunker in the basement, sorry if it's sideways. A few bottles missing that were stashed in cabinets or off sitepost-10334-14489820599471_thumb.jpg, but not bad when you consider last year at this time I think I had a KC, WR, MM, EC18, BMH, RC, Jameson, JD and a bottle of Glenlivet.

You were busy this past year! Very nice.

Thanks. I'm not the photographer you are, Yeti, could probably have arrayed them so one could better tell exactly what I've got there. But I'm fairly proud of what I've been able to assemble (and taste) over the last year once this hobby kicked itself into high gear.

Figured it was bout time that I put something in this thread.

got the shelf up yesterday and loaded with the lose items and some others that I had in a previous storage solution. Thankfully, the misses likes this better. I do too!

Currently this only holds about half the current bunker. The next set will be harder to post. But till then, some eye candy for you all.

Nice stash and I see you have your priorities in order on what to bunker in numbers.

I always cringe a bit when I see these kinds of shelves covered with nice collections but I haven't read anything about any recent catastophies so I suppose my fears are largely unfounded. Then again I am a klutz so I could see myself bumping into the shelf and then watching in horror as a dozen bottles plunge to the cold, cruel, concrete floor! Although I wouldn't have an open shelf system like this out on the west coast. And even here I tied the shelves to the studs behind them.

I use what looks to be the same brand of shelf system (Metro?) but elected to use the "basket" shelves instead of flat shelves. Cut some thin particle board to create a flat bottom and it seems to work well. Only the bottom shelf is flat for storing boxes and such. I now have three of these and still haven't caught up to the overflow yet.

This is an old and rather blurry picture of one of the shelves.

I like the basket version, I can see where that is quite a bit more secure. While we use Metro(brand) carts quite a bit at work, I option for the slightly less expensive but yet still sturdy Costco version. For $90+tax out the door, it was a bargain.

This weekend I'm planning on getting some of the flat mats that go on the shelves to help with bottle stability, although I was pretty surprised at how stabile this are now.

They are a god solution to pack quite a bit in to a relatively small footprint. Especially for the weight involved.

I take it you enjoy EC18! Very nice to have those bunkered,if I had that many of those I'd be making them my solitary pour for a week or so.I got one waiting in the shadows for the right time, which is always.Hope they come out with some more of that soon.

I do like it quite a bit. Was very fortunate in the last year to stumble across most of those. Sadly, not much hiding out in the wilds any more.

If they do bring it back, it's not going to be nearly the bargain that it once was.

Getting back to storage, the other half of the bunker resides in these.

Homemade from basic pine from Menards. I happen to like the blue stain-natural fungus attack, in the wood, gives it some neat visual character. Very sturdy, very heavy once loaded.

But, keeps things very safe!

Very impressive BF! Although in my case an additional storage like this would probably not go over to well with Mrs TT.
