I thought I'd place a call to investigate.

"Unfortunately NONE of these bottles were allocated to the Texas market. At all"

So there's your Grand Reserve reward, my Lone Star State friends.

None, and done.

No PVW & no BTAC?

Texas can be a rough market. The distribution is as dirty as it gets.

They regularly do things like spontaneously decide that the entire allocation of CEHT limiteds like Cured Oak and 4 Grain are going to go to bars and restaurants only, etc.

Spec's is the horned puppet master in the background, greasing the governor's palms. Even Wal Mart couldn't win the right to sell spirits in state. When Wal Mart can't muscle in, you got yourself a rigged system.

Still, given the volumes that TW does, I thought they would be at the table for this one. The way it was said on the phone it was like they were too late in filing for an application for an allocation? It doesn't really make a lot of sense.

That's just the price of W12 availability.

Nope, and nope.

well talk about how to really piss off a dedicated customer.  Might as well have sent an email out telling us our money would be better spent at Spec's or any other mom and pop shop.

I guess they pretty much are the walmart of liquor stores...

Spec's won't talk to you until you've done about $25K of business. So good luck with that.

Last year Goody Goody ran a dodgy lottery, in which nobody I knew won the right to purchase anything.

This year I saw nothing by email.

$2500 well spent.

And I’m sure you enjoyed every last drop of your purchases.

Our chance for  Pappy is tomorrow at  9:01....can anyone give advise as to the best approach to secure a purchase? Can I already be logged in to the concierge page or do I have to use the email link at 9:01? Any advise/tips would be appreciated.

Was only looking for some helpful advise, but non was to too be found. My experience was that the validation number is requested first, followed by log in info, then payment info. So be prepared with the validation number first. I tried for the 15 year pappy ( as this is my favorite ), but was able to purchase the 12 year as all others were already sold out. Within 30 min all in SC was sold out. Hope this helps others. Cheers.

You'll be happier with the GTS than you would have been with the PVW23... IMHO...

I agree with JTaylor.

GTS is consistently my favorite whiskey of all time. PVW23 is going to be an overoaked mess. Some people like that. Most don't.

Well unfortunately, none of us had experienced it yet. They tested it in Florida first and then rolled it out to a few other states the following week. We were figuring it out at the same time as you.

  • 1 month later...

has anyone in the Total Wine Concierge group actually received the goods?

I tried calling the 800 Concierge phone but it was disconnected.

And then phoned local TW store, who said they actually expected shipment 'any day'!

Not sure where you are, however, I received the e-mail from TW about 2 weeks ago and picked up my bottle same day.  I'm in AZ.

Helps to know where you are.

Heading out to pick up my 2017 WLW on Friday in New Jersey while babysitting the grandkids in Brooklyn.  It was ready for pickup last week but I was in Atlanta.  Called them up and was assured that it would still be there on Friday.  HTH.

Ha, ha!  But I left a PVW20 on the table for YOU!   :P

My preferred store is in NJ since I get down there all the time babysitting the grandkids in Brooklyn and the other set of grandparents in Highland Park. And we don't/can't get any discounts or coupons up here by law.   You guys also get a lot of high-end stuff we don't even see - I've surely spent way too much money and contributed significant coin to your tax base!   Too bad Christy raised the gas tax, too . . . . . .
