bourbonv
On President's Day last month I went to Bardstown to have lunch with Flaget Nally. I have been trying to get her to start a trust fund to support the museum for years and I finally talked her into creating one. It started out that I would give her a check for $100.00 to create a trust fund for acquisitions in honor of Jo Ann Beam. I also wanted to remember Marvin Adams who worked maintenance for the museum until his death so I sent her a check for $200.00. I contacted some friends who also donated some money and Flaget had the money to start the ball rolling. In the meantime Booker passed away and someone donated some money in his memory. With this money Flaget (along with a banker and a lawyer) created atrust fund. Because of the other names involved in the donations it was decided to simply name it the Oscar Getz Memorial Acquisition Fund and to list those people who were remembered by donations. This fund will go into the bank and the interest on this money will be used to purchase artifacts or manuscripts for the museum. None of the money will be used for anything other than this purpose so donors don't have to worry about Spalding Hall taking it for a new furnace or some other need that does not directly relate to the museum. If you would like to donate some money to this fund you can make a check out to the Oscar Getz Memorial Acquisition Fund and send it to Flaget Nally, 302 West Muir Street, Bardstown, Ky. 40004. You can do it the name of Jo Ann Beam, Booker Noe or any other person who you feel should be remembered in this way. A couple of other suggestions I can think of include the late Ova Haney from Four Roses or maybe even further back to Pappy Van Winkle. In any case the money will help build a future for the Oscar Getz Museum.Thank You,Mike Veach
BERNCOW
Mike, this is great and noble idea. I am going to take 24 hours to make that dedication name final in my mind. But, in 24 hours and 1 minute my check will be in the mail. Thanks for the info. Rick B.
bourbonv
Rick,Thank you for your support. This fund is needed to move the museum to its next stage. I hope everybody will show their support for this fine institution dedicated to preserving the heritage of the American Whiskey Industry. The thing to remember is the museum will be around for along time, well after its present management has retired. Mike Veach
BERNCOW
HAD A LITTLE TROUBLE WITH MY FIRST DONATION,BUT WE GOT THAT FIXED. SO,NOW IT IS TIME FOR THAT SECOND DONATION, SO MY CHECK IS IN THE MAIL TO THE O.G.AC. FUND AGAIN, RICK
bourbonv
Thanks, for your support. My second donation will have to wait until after the beginning of the year, but I do plan to make it an annual gift. The only way the Oscar Getz Museum is going to survive is to get an independent source of income. What the Getz family gives barely pays one salary, let alone expenses. With the new Heaven Hill Bourbon Heritage Center in competition, the future of the Getz Museum is in doubt. Mike Veach
LeNell
I somehow missed the first post on this fun, but will do my best to scrounge up a donation after I survive the retail holiday season. I enjoyed my visit to the museum during the Festival and actually learned a few things there.
