How do you like the Redemption? I've had a couple bottles of the High Rye 10 year bourbon (which I really like), and have been thinking picking up the Rye too.

I'm also a big fan of the 9-10 yr high rye bourbon from Redemption. I liked the 10 year rye quite a bit. I tend to prefer ryes a little younger, though. I like the dominance of the rye. In my experience the ones around 10 are sweeter than I like.

The RR SiB I bought Friday is my second bottle, but they definitely weren't from the same barrel. The first one I had was fantastic. This one is sweeter and has a much more muted finish. I need to have another pour, as maybe my palate was a little off.

First time sipping on Old Forester Rye, it was a sample @El Vino was kind enough to pour for me last year, this is easily the best non JD Brown Foreman American Whiskey I have had the high malt in the mash feels noticeable, a really interesting pour.

As a note of interest (Since IMO we have similar palate tastes), I’ve started to grow very tired of the heavy malt taste in this bottle.

Im a little over half down with it and I doubt I’ll buy it ever again.

At first I liked it for being different, now it has simply worn out its welcome.

I drink as much single malt as anything and tend to like mutant whiskies like HW Campfire, not sure I would buy a bottle but I'd go for it as a bar pour.

Hot Toddy with OF Rye, lemon tea, and honey. Trying to nip this cold in the but. Pretty tasty too.

Wife and I cracked open an Act 2 MWND tonight.

Last year I decided I wasn’t buying any more of the new batches, and would just drink my stash of the old ones, because I like them better.

So, here we are.

Sipping on this and watching Christmas episodes of “The Office”.

It was on the house, so it doesn’t get much better.

I am down to the last couple pours of a SA rye (7yr 99p) and though a holiday SBS would be fun. I had the SA along with my newly acquired Dads Hat Bib and some std. WP10 as that has been a long standing rye measuring stick.

The SA (35.00) was as it has always been a tasty and unique blend of caramel and jalapeno pepper. I haven't had that combo in any other rye to date. The other thing is that it presents as 2 distinct flavors, first the sweet then a gear change to spicy.

The DH bib (63.00) at 4-5 vs 7 yrs was peppery spice but more black pepper vs the distinct jalapeno and it didn't have dual personalities the sweet notes and the spice were interwoven with a very nice mouthfeel. I find it better integrated than the SA

The WP10 (70) at 10yrs had less sweetness but also great integration between all the flavors it presented. This rye had a maturity that gave me all the spice I look for in a rye with a muted sweetness, great balance of flavors throughout the sip.

WP10 #1A

DH bib # 1B. The flavors were a bit...brighter? than the WP but just as enjoyable. I preferred whichever of these I was sipping at the moment.

SA #2 (or 3??). I have enjoyed this bottle but its always been a bit weird, good but weird. The transition from the sweet front to the jalapeno, while always enjoyable was always a bit too violent a shift vs. the better integrated ryes where the flavors and aromas intertwine in a way that feels part of a whole vs. pieces/parts.

Good for me as the WP and DH are available and the SA is a piece of history.

Is the SA history? I guess maybe in that specific container, but it’s just standard MGP rye, and there is MGP rye all over the place these days, including in some of the WhistlePig products. The only thing really gone from SA rye is that sub-$40 price for fairly high roof 7 year age stated.

Having a sbsbs of New Riff, RR SiB, and Wilderness Trail. I love these 3 ryes. The night I bought the RR I posted on here that I was disappointed. Well I must've been having an off palate night, because there's nothing disappointing about it. The Wilderness Trail is a notch above, though.

Yes, that specific container is what I was referring to.

I too have been underwhelmed by the RR, I am hoping that some air time improves things but I am not a huge believer in that.  I have had several pours from my bottle on several different occasions, its just not good. I am hoping RB rye in 2020 is a BIG improvement over my particular RR.

The NR and Wilderness Trail are both favorites though. A very nice SBS there.

Yeah, I was aware you were referring to that specific container. Just saying, MGP rye is literally the most abundant product in the entire industry of rye whiskey regardless of which label is on the bottle.

You and I are on the same skeptical page about bottles opening up after time. I'm more of a believer in us as humans having evolving palates and having off days.

I never thought I would buy a bottle of owl but this loner was sitting on the shelf well below msrp. The reviews I’ve seen of batch 3 are more inline with batch 1 so I had to grab it.

A Wilderness Trail rye is high on my want list but since it’s not distributed in SC I don’t know when I’ll come across one.
