I find it humorous when folks complain about hoarding, then on the flip side they grumble about being down to the last X number of bottles in their bunker, and laud folks in the “Show us your stash” thread. Basically a whole lot of an “I’m not a hoarder like these chump taters, I’m a collector/aficionado/good guy” mentality. I’ll readily admit I’m blessed with the means and storage space to have more than my fair share of multiples stashed away. I’m not going to sugarcoat by saying “I’ve been collecting before the boom, I open and drink my bottles, I share with and gift bottles to anyone/everyone who is interested in and appreciates bourbon, etc”. At the end of the day, I’m a hoarder.....just like many other forumites already are, or are striving to be. M777
I'm not a fan of the universally accepted eagle rare 10 as a sipper, does make a great old fashioned. My palate has changed over the years. Edited May 12, 2020 by M777

You could always mix it with Diet Pepsi like my co-worker who was so happy to finally get a bottle of this "unicorn" from a friend of his that brought it back from Kentucky for him. Reminds me of a really good rep for one of our medical supplies who’s “boss goes crazy for Blanton’s” So I helped him get a bottle for his boss because I’m nice like that occasionally. Fast forward 3 months and I meet the boss at an event, sipping on a rocks glass of Blanton’s so full of half melted ice, that the liquid was barely brown anymore... Im glad he was truly enjoying it.

Mako254
Beam is like Mexican food. I have to be in the mood and it is generally good but whether it is bookers, bakers, kc 12 or distillers cut it is still some combination of tortilla, chicken/beef, cheese, pico, and guac. Beam to me has the ‘heaviest’ DNA signature of any heritage distiller. Regardless of the offering, it still ends up tasting like ‘Beam’.
PaulO
Yes, but it's not the same as the real Beam they drink in Kentucky.

It should never arrive as a surprise to find that there is (or may may be) a certain distillery, or more than one, that produces Bourbon which any particular person does not generally find to his/her liking. For me it's most (but not quite all) of the crafters I've tried. (I think due to young juice, small barrels, poor QC, or a combination of these things.) Also, Woodford has traditionally put out Bourbon for which I just don't care very much. I always assumed (and mostly still do) that their Pot Still method of distillation (or maybe I should say re-distillation) just doesn't create a distillate that finds favor with my taste buddies.... no matter what happens after it gets barreled. That's not to say I can't or won't drink, or at least try, craft Bourbons; nor that every pour I've tried that came from Woodford was underwhelming... some were pretty darned good; but, through the years they seem to have been exceptions to norm. BlueMonk
In my rookie opinion, Elijah Craig Small Batch is OK (not great) in cocktails. But I found it one dimensional and lacking much flavor when I drank it neat. I do want to try ECBP at some point though and know there are many fans on this site. mal00768
Three of the most memorable bottles I’ve ever had were WT Rare Breed, WT 101, and EW bib. I’ve had other bottles of these 3 that weren’t great. But I find it interesting.

I like the Small Batch, some of the store picks are really good... The BPs are really good... Still prefer Stagg JR to it but won’t pass on ECBP if I need an extra and the price is sub
yobber76
I have tried to like HM 10yr, but after 6 or 7 tastes over the last few months, it's a bourbon I wouldn't buy again.

Are all these 'tastes' from the same bottle? Bearing in mind that this brand is always from a single barrel, I've had quite a few stellar-or-nearly-so bottles, and a smaller number of ordinary-to-quite-good ones, and tasted a couple tastes from a couple truly underwhelming ones. Never having actually done a scientific analysis, I'd guess that I've had at least 5-to-1 'stellar' over ordinary-to-quite-good and at least triple that number over crummy. Maybe take another chance on the brand?

Blue, I really hope you do get to try ECBP soon because it is far from "one dimensional" and "lacking much flavor". In fact, I often describe it as one of the most complex and "most flavorful" bourbons I've ever had. The "new bottles" are not as great as the "old bottles" in my opinion but they are still really good.

Kane
Fun fact: 60% of my open bottles don't have their original corks intact on them. Hence f traditional corks. Plastic screw caps for the win, artificial corks barely acceptable. Edited May 28, 2020 by Kane
