Bbstout
Bourbon Brothers, I have sinned. I have sold and bought on secondary. Please forgive my sins. Question. I was offered a 1992 bourbon deluxe. Is it National Distillers? It has the 86529 upc.
Phil T
Not a sin in my book. It's your bottles and your money, who am I to say what you should or shouldn't do with either? The ND upc is 86259. Edited December 21, 2019 by Phil T

Bbstout
Sorry, 86259. Is 1992 the last year that BDL came from ND? Edited December 21, 2019 by Bbstout
smokinjoe
Here is some info on ND from Chuck that might help with the timeline: https://chuckcowdery.blogspot.com/2018/02/do-you-have-national-distillers-dusty.html?m=
Bbstout
Thanks for the link. I know Beam bought them in 87. Someone said that 92 could be a mix of Beam and ND. I would think as long as it has the ND upc it would be all ND butterscotch goodness though. Am I correct?

Bbstout
Hmmmm. I read the article and still can't discern if 92 is ND. Guess I can't be 100% until I crack one.

I wouldn't bet on it being ND.

smokinjoe
As Chuck mentions, there was a lot of aging whiskey included in the sale of ND, and that whiskey was bottled there even after the shuttering of the stills. It’s possible if not probable it took several years after the sale to go through all of those barrels. So, a 1992 dated ND distilled BDlxe is not out of the question. When they ran out, distillation would have moved to Beam, and I would say, the UPC would change to Beam’s along with that move. In that your bottle still shows 86259, I’m guessing it is still ND whiskey inside. BTW, this question of provenance has been discussed a ton here on SB since the beginning, without any real exact conclusions. But, the dialogue has always been fascinating. Bbstout
Thanks for the encouragement Joe. One of these days it would be nice to make one of the SB meetups and pass around the good stuff.
