Probably need to experiment with (a lot) more water or even ice, which I never do with anything else (beyond a literal few drops). I’ll agree with you there. sweet wheat and full proof tend to be my least favorite expressions of the line. Ive learned that personally, I need to try full proof picks before buying, because many of them simply don’t do it for me. When you find one that’s good, it can really sing! In my experience, 1792 doesn’t take water well. Seems like it gets weird. I honestly have quit trying to use it in cocktails or with water, but perhaps I should experiment again, just for fun.

It's weird because the first Full Proof I bought, I initially thought it was a bit of a hot mess. But halfway through the bottle I absolutely loved it. And then I get a couple different store picks that were great as well. Now it's my clear favorite of the line, though I really like BIB too. Sweet Wheat was a disappointment. The best thing about 1792 is the nice balance of rye, so I think it's a crime to swap the rye for wheat. I wasn't terribly impressed with High Rye either - the balance is off there too. Their base mash bill is really nice.
BDanner
I may have to re-visit Barton. I find the regular 1792 a jumbled mess of good notes with no balance. It just tastes weird and overly hot to me. The only VOB we get here in NC is an 86 proof that is a watered down bottom shelf all the way in price and taste (and is somehow viewed as premium based on the Weller-esque bottle shape). Maybe I'm doing myself a disservice by not exploring other variants in their lineup based on these two products.

The BT was tough because nothing really jumped out at us especially when cut down to around 90 proof. But it will likely sell on name alone better than the 1792 which I thought was the better pick of the day.

I thought it must be a bad bottle...

I want to like it more because it is so widely available and there are lots of store picks plus they are trying new things. My wife and I used the last bottle as a mixer eventually where it held up nicely.

It too was a store pick and everytime I had a taste it was fantastic. In fact I would often go back on a different day, different mood, and I'm assuming after having different foods and it kept coming back...WINNER...WINNER! It was definitely one of my top great surprises of all the 2019 purchases. YUM One of my favorite purchases last year was a store pick FP. I took too long to get around to opening it and by that time the store was out when I went for a back up. It really shines, most FP PS's I get leave just a little room for improvement but man this one hits all the notes every time.

I'll also throw in praise for Barton and wishes for a clearly Barton distilled rye (1792 or otherwise). Hopefully with some decent proof and age; 6yr BiB rye maybe? Increased availability and/or variant expressions of their wheated mash bill and "high rye" mash bill would also be great. Well...the CEHT is BiB, so the DSP should be on the label. Here is one CEHT Rye label. Not sure of how old this one is. Mysteriously lists both the BT and Barton DSPs on it?

Limegoldconvertible68
All I know is my local store got a store pick 1792 FP. Bottled Leap Day 2012. I bought an entire case. The only case of bourbon I’ve ever bought. It was that good. It was an eye opener for me because it was 7 yrs old and I usually consider that too young. Boy was I ever wrong. Truly amazing bourbon.

We did one tour and got "lucky" a few years ago but in 2019 we were unfortunately informed this was no longer part of the package. One of my favorites to go to in our bar, but we choose it rarely because once it's gone it's gone! We really enjoy our tours at Barton and of course for me a case of my favorite chocolate bourbon cream is always a must!

Each bottle is from a different barrel, so I've kept them separate.
