What happened to this bourbon, I was able to find this pretty often in Colorado up until about 18 months ago and now it seems to be non-existent, started to look online and the price seems to have gone through the roof, is there a reason, or is it readily available and Colorado is just in a drought.

Just another victim of the Buffalo Trace hype train.  People have somehow convinced themselves that if they can't have Pappy, then everything else they make must be equally as good.  I don't understand it, honestly.  It's just the state of bourbon at the present moment.  Stay tuned for next year when we're all asking what happened to the Ancient Age that used to command the bottom shelves of liquor stores from coast to coast.

Welcome to the wonderful world of allocation. It’s never been an easy bottle for me to find but those past 18 months you mentioned have seen a complete disappearance of the entire BT Mashbill #2 lineup.

Appreciate the responses, just a shame as that was a nice one and normally a pretty good price.

Yep. Wish I had kept a couple empty bottles to decant regular BT into for serving to bourbon moochers. If I could find any BT.

If you were able to find RHF easily throughout 2018  I would say your market was better then most.  Since I have been into Bourbon (late 2016) I think RHF hits about once a year and is pretty limited in the Chicago market.

Regional differences are wild.  My LS says he is swimming in regular BT, but can't get any 1.75 bottles.  They just selected 3 barrels of BT that are being blended into a small batch and are only getting the half gallon bottles!  No, 750s.

CA is hardly a state that gets huge allocations of bourbon IMO.  Yet Costcos I go to locally seem to have BT 750s at pretty regular intervals.  Was just at one yesterday, and there were several cases on the shelves @ $20.99 a bottle.

Baby Sazerac shows up less often at Costcos, but still at a reasonably regular cadence.  Those tend to disappear quickly.

Parksmart, I'm in the Bay as well.  My local BevMo has ER and Baby Saz every time I walk in the store.  The ER is typically in every format, as well.  I have no trouble finding standard BT in the Bay in either 750 or 1.75L.  But that's where it begins and ends with BT products.  Anything else is rather difficult to find with any regularity.  Hancock's has been the easiest single barrel expression from mash bill number 2 for me to find.  Anything else requires me hitting up my honey holes and even then...RHF is not available.

Yea, the only time I see RHF with any regularity is at a local watering hole that does a brisk business in booze.

The increased availability of the young bottlings reflects the increased production that started about six years ago.

I haven't seen Rock Hill Farms in years.    I've only seen Hancock's Reserve once in the past year,  at a Total Wine near Chatsworth, California.    There was one bottle left,  and I convinced another customer to pick it up after I overheard the salesperson pitching one of their no-name bourbons.

In Pennsy,  the only BT product I see with regularity is BT itself.   About a month ago an EHT single barrel popped up at the state store in Bryn Mawr, and I quickly found it a new home.

Luckily, although I think BT juice is good stuff,  I'm mainly an Old Forester guy - and there's never been a better time than the present for OF fans,  with at least seven variants on their basic brand plus the new rye

Here in northern Illinois, bars and restaurants have been getting a bigger piece of the “spirits pie” for a few years now. My wife and I stopped in for lunch at a nice bistro a while back. They had things on their back bar, including RHF, that the “tater” liquor store right next door didn’t have on their shelves.

FWIW, Blanton’s shows up on a semi-regular basis, and at least a couple of stores have It priced reasonably. The same can be said of RHF, although it shows up less often. Hancock’s is the one that has basically been awol. I’ve only seen two bottles in the last few years. I bought one just ‘cause. Both were around msrp.

Two years ago I found RHF at my local in Michigan for $60. I happened to be on a list as well at another store in MI And scored another bottle. I figured this was the week of RHF so I sought out another store that I figured would get it on delivery day and sure enough I came home with the goods. Needless to say I drank two bottles and am half way through one but I finagled a trade for another. Thank goodness because I haven’t seen one since. I had a blind tasting of mashbill #2 and for me RHF came in first. Blanton’s Gold 2nd, Blanton’s 3rd & Elmer T Lee in last. I get this great Apple note and the mouthfeel is great. I thought for sure #1 would be BG due to the mouthfeel but RHF won. Sad bc I may not see another bottle for a while.

Every couple years or so, I get a call from my guy who asks if I crave a replacement RHF.   I usually take him up on the offer, as he's pretty good about pricing, and always takes care of me; best he's able.

Last one I bought from him (about 3-months ago?) is unopened, so far.

I’ve drank enough of all these to at least know my personal order of preference to be generally aligned with this. I’ve met tons of people that go nuts searching for Blantons and ETL, sometimes when RHF was more readily available, which always made me laugh. ETL is one of, if not the most, overhyped bottles there is.

I have not seen one in years.  All the BT mash bill 2 and Wellers disappeared around the same time.  Any stores that get anything like that must be hiding it.

I agree that the standard ETL is a little over hyped. However, there's also been some damn fine ones such as the 15yr, Commemorative bottling and some private selections (I'm very much enjoying my GBS bottle!)

I have a sample of RHF and a bottle of Blanton's Gold. Trying them side-by-side, they are so similar that I would be happy to have either equally.

I've been busy buying and designing the renovation for a new house, renovating my current house, and finally getting it listed yesterday. It has been a whirlwind of showings the last 24 hours, complicated by four kids under 10 and social distancing concerns  But a couple of semi-hidden parks and impromptu picnics later, it feels good to be under contract.

A generous pour of Early Times BIB over ice to relax, and then I'll pack the car to take the 3 boys wilderness camping tomorrow.

ET over ice is fantastic!

My experience on the West Side of Indy has been similar.  I spoke with one local grocery liquor department manager who I talk to regularly and he said he got two bottles of Blanton's  around the holidays.  He held both back for product reps so that he could keep the flow of other products coming in.  The trade off has been more bottles of Eagle Rare and BT.  I suspect most liquor stores hold it back for special customers or lotteries.  I don't play those games any more so I don't know.

I haven't seen RHF in probably 5 years.  Same with ETL.  I have never seen HR in Indiana.

Similarly I think it was 2 or maybe 3 years ago (not positive but seems about right) when I procured several bottles all within a week. I haven't seen any since.  But I haven't sought anymore out either because I have enough for now. However I know there have been more releases here in Texas since then, it's just that I think you have to be on "the list" now to get it.

Yes this. Plus people convinced themselves that Pappy is the pinnacle of quality, rather than a line of rather ho-hum bourbon that is aged a bit longer than most other bourbon. So you've got all these people out there begging stores for the near impossible to find (but mediocre) bourbon, and of course they don't have any, so anything even tangibly related gets hoarded.
