I realize this thread has kinda gone off the rails, but if a straight bourbon has anything in it less than four years old, there MUST be an age statement on it.

I really don’t have a problem with the Benchmark 8. There are a couple of reasons why I don’t buy any. One reason is my love for other BT products such as BT, ER, and of course Weller SR. The other reason is (please don’t throw empties at me) I was spoiled early on in my bourbon journey by the old Seagrams Benchmark  6 yr. I had a couple of bottles of the 8, and they were okay. They just couldn’t hold a candle to the old 6 year.

That’s a good bourbon there, Joe.  This thread also got me to thinking about this Benchmark Single Barrel.  I’ve had it open for some time, and it is still a rich and flavorful whiskey.  Nice caramel and toffee, throughout.

Litany of snarky, angry and insulting responses.  Out of curiosity, what was so offensive about asking how much older you think the bourbon is?

 

Also, for asked and answered one would have to actually answer the question.  I suspect it's more likely there would be a whole lot of "objection, non-responsive"

 

At least I got to see pictures of another two bottles of bourbon I had no idea even existed!  Pinkys up tonight!

What's the history on these?  Did Sazerac or Buffalo Trace buy them out, and when?  I had no idea that this bourbon had an older history.  It makes the upcoming extension of the Benchmark line much more interesting to me.

Our own Harry @Harry in WashDC did a really terrific history synopsis of the brand in the VBT below.  It’s a really good read full of great info.  I know Chuck has spoken specifically about the release of the Single Barrel version in my pic.  I’ll try and hunt that up.

Dopey here.  Late and out of touch as usual.  Boy Howdy but we all can get fractious.  I am so glad I only read this thread today or my whole Saturday would have been fraught, and I'd have been in no mood to watch Hallmark Movies and Mysteries.  I only opened it because SJ (Weller - GA) quoted me, and I wanted to see what got quoted.  Best part of the thread, though, was learning about the pending Benchmark upgrades.  I shall do my part to ensure that the better releases get some love.  Oh, yeah, I loved the pictures, too.

One of the great paradoxes of life is that the more you know, the more you know that your knowledge is incomplete and often contradictory. The less you know, the greater the probability that you will be convinced that you are absolutely right. Those with different perceptions are just maroons, ignoramuses. 

The great positive of this thread is that now I have a legitimate reason to be on the lookout for some upgraded Benchmark. Hope I find some before it becomes a  strictly allocated unicorn.

To your point about Benchmark becoming a 'unicorn'... It's entirely possible that once the taters find out how good it is, or at least how well-thought-of; as well as how inexpensive (that would change quickly of course) they'll start emptying the shelves!   HA!

 

To your point about those ignoramuses (or is that ignorami?) who disagree with me about . . . anything, I agree they don't know how little they know!   

The ones with whom I agree some of the time, are of course not as stupid.   

Those that always agree with me turn out to be amazingly enlightened and well-informed, besides being extremely intelligent individuals.   Coincidence?  I think not!

 I thought if the youngest whiskey was less than 4 years old, it had to state the age of the youngest whiskey in order to be labeled as straight whiskey.
