As summer comes to a close (I'm a teacher so summer to me is more than a season) what was your drink/bourbon of summer.  Maybe it was a new bourbon you tried, perhaps a new cocktial, or maybe just an old favorite.  Mine was a whiskey sour.  Ususally made with MM46, two sugar cubes (la perruche), a splash of water, and the juice of 1/4 of a lemon off my tree.  Shake with ice and garnish with lemon peel and two luxardo cherries.  Went down very well on hot So Cal afternoons.  Cheers!

You have your own lemon tree???  I want a lemon tree!!!!  ?

While nothing is off limits due to the Season, my selections are certainly altered in the Summer.  I enjoy an ice cold Corona beer with a lime, for sure, as well as some good simple  ‘Merican beers like Papst, Miller, Bud, Hamm’s, etc.  Absolut Citron and soda is great at the beach, or while lazing out in the  back yard while soaking up some Sun.  All bourbons are poised and ready to go, but 4 Roses Yella Label out of the freezer is great, but a Summer only treat.

Hey Joe, wish I would have known.  We had so many lemons we were giving them away.  I hate to break it to ya, but we have 2 lemon, 1 orange, 1 avocado, 1 cherry, 1 fig, and 1 mini lime (never got one lime though).  Believe me when I say we don't have a big yard (teachers remmeber), just have trees along the perimeter.

Remind me in February or March. I have access to a lemon tree in south georgia that produces fruit that has been mistaken for oranges.

That is so cool that you have those available at your fingertips!  Best I can muster is Basil, Rosemary, and mint in the garden, and raiding the guys pecan tree down the street.  ?

Thanks, Tom.  I didn’t figure lemons for Georgia.  How far South?

Peach gin freeze.  Fresh peaches only.

Per serving - Bombay Sapphire (2 oz.), peach brandy (1 oz. 80 proof, add more for lower proof), peach bitters to taste (more is better), some grenadine for color and sweetness (amount depends on how ripe/over-ripe the peaches are), AND

TWO average sized peaches per TWO servings, peeled if you want, but we don't bother.

Cut the brown/soft parts and the pit away.  Cut up the good parts.  Put them with the ingredients above AND one loose cup of ice cubes per serving in a bender.  Run until it is a slurry.  Pour a bit and taste before serving.  Try the sip.  Adjust the sweetness and ice to match the number of servings.

Serve and be careful.  On a hot day, these go down like smoothies.

Barrel proof bourbon with a one large ice cube. Or a mint julep. Or an Old Fashioned. Or 4R Yellow Label out of the freezer.

There are lots more good choices!

4RYL out of the freezer. Gin & Tonics are always good. Negronis and Boulevardiers. The Final Ward (a new one - see the cocktail thread) is GREAT for summer.

I've also grown fond of the Campari Radler - 1oz Campari, 1/4oz lemon juice, topped with Stiegl Grapefruit Radler in a pint glass. So refreshing.

This summer of 2020 it's been HH 6 year Bonded out of the freezer, killed 2 bottles that way in the past month and a half.

As far as drinks I usually enjoy in the summertime, gin & tonic is my go-to.  Or something rum based like a Mai Tai if I'm vacationing on a tropical beach somewhere.  Sadly due to wuhan coronavirus that ain't  happening this year.

FRYL out of the freezer and GW4G out of the fridge (SURPRISE!) - both in my new 10z Yeti wine tumbler with lid (keeps everything cold for a looong time).  ?

SWMBO wants a "Dark and Stormy" during the summer made with Gosling's "Old Family" rum and ginger beer with a squeeze of fresh lime over ice - she's drinking them from my old 10oz Yeti tumbler with lid.  I'm guessing that she's fondly thinking of our trips to Bermuda (and I'm thinking of finding Blanton's Gold at the Duty Free store at the airport for $79 and in downtown Hamilton for $96).

Sorry for the thread drift but speaking of Blanton's Gold - just saw a shelf tag at the store for Blanton's Gold - $199.99!  WTF?!?  ?

Dark-n-Stormies for me also (except no Gosling products in it, I use Doorlys 12 and whatever ginger beer I have on hand), WT101 minis out of the outdoor kitchen freezer/fridge, Deep Eddy Sweet Tea vodka, and most recently Ranch Water (homemade, not the store bought junk).

Ah, summertime for me is largely Prosecco or a Spritz (could be Campari, Aperol, Hugo, Ramazzotti Rosato, or something else). If I'm doing bourbon its probably a mint julep (like today) or a Kentucky Mule. Summer is the time for me to work into the rum a little bit too, whether a daiquiri or caipirinha.

My summer has been mostly old fashioneds for myself. When we’ve had people over in the backyard or on the porch, I make caipirinhas. I’ve killed a few bottles of 51 in the last couple weeks. I’ve mixed a Pimm’s or julep in there occasionally, too.

Gose is a great beer type for summer. Many of the crafts also add lime to their version of this old german style.

I 100% agree. The briny tartness can be perfect.

Berliner Weis is another.

Been playing a lot of golf, which lends itself to brewskis.  While everyone in my regular foursome, including me, likes IPAs, we actually drink almost exclusively Pacificos now.  Put a lime in those, and they’re magical on a warm, sunny day hoofing my carry bag around our hilly club!

Gose typically has some wheat in the mashbill. Surprising it got past the the Reinheitsgebot with its other ingredients.

Summertime means Old Fashioned to me...or a gin and tonic if I'm having multiples. I often use Hendrick's gin as I really enjoy that cucumber taste.

As for the Old Fashioned, it's usually simple syrup and bitters over WSR.  Please don't hate me for that. ;)

If you like to use WSR for your Old Fashioned then by all means go for it!

Even lazier here.  WSR with a dash of orange bitters over a large cube is fantastic and effortless.

We have a couple Trader Joe’s and a Wegmans we can go to.  It is just NOT the same as local and fresh.  But, the Dutch Market in Laurel MD does have great Penn peaches., and Carter’s Mountain south of Charlottesville grows their own.  We plan a Summer trip to C’ville just to stop at CM.
