It’s very good, but Im not sure that it’s $50+ Good.

(Shrug)

Ill also add for frame of reference, that I think all the Michters toasted products are gross.  I did enjoy Blood Oath 4, and now EC toasted.

Thoughts on this bottle? Passed at $55 but I'm sure Taters will scoop anything new up.

I posted some brief notes in the What Bourbon Are You Drinking thread— I found it a bit too quiet. The bottle was $31.99 down here, so not a huge uptick from the standard EC Small Batch and certainly worth trying.

Double the price almost of regular EC in Chicago. Is it double as good? Idk, I passed and got the regular EC

Wow. I'd have tried it for that. I passed on it at $69.99. I did see a shelf tag for it at TW for $45.99. I understood that MSRP is $49.99.  $31.99 seems like a misprice.

Its okay... More spice than anything toasted IMO... The neck pour was not worth 50 but maybe it opens up a little

Same thing in NC. ECSmB goes for $29 (and is regularly on sale for $26), while ECTB is $50 here. Everything I've heard thus far seems to indicate that the toasting did very little to differentiate and/or improve it compared to the SB. So it's just really hard for me to justify paying twice as much for it as the SB just because it's different.

Don't they have a beer barrel finish in the works, too? If so, I'm sure that'll probably fall into the same boat as this...  overpriced for what it brings to the table & thus a hard pass from me.

Beer barrel finish? That sounds gross.

I agree. I guess it's not a done deal until we hear more about it, but HH has filed with the TTB for an EC Beer Barrel FInish release.

It is that review that you reference that will prompt me to pick one of these up if I stumble upon one.  It has been the saccharine-like artificial sweetener mess that other “toasted barrel” offerings from Michter’s to Old Forester 1910 that have left me with a bad opinion of this type of wood management.  Your comments that this does not have that, and that I have a generally positive + opinion of EC, has set the probably purchase hook.  Perhaps, HH’s interpretation and execution of what toasted barrel influence will align more with my expectations...or perhaps, it does nothing for the whiskey and leaves it a feckless and boring mess as you also note in your review.  Dang!  Now I’ve done gone and a conflicted muhself!!!  ?

EC Toasted has hit Ohio, and I should be able to purchase a bottle tomorrow morning.   I will post my thoughts after a taste.

I can't remember if we discussed this before, but I was glad to see this comment.  I know I'm in the minority here, but I really do not care for Michter's Toasted Barrel Rye.  Most people love it, but I just think they fucked up a delicious barrel strength rye (as I love the barrel strength regular Michter's rye).  To be fair though I've never tasted the Bourbon or Sour Mash varieties of the toasted line.

So I tried my bottle over the weekend.   Was a little think on the nose, taste, and finish.   Not sure why I would ever pay 2x as much for EC for a barrel finish which is not as good as the mother ship.   I thought It just might be my pallet, and then I had my wife and neighbor try it.   Similar thoughts and outcomes.

It was ok. Not something I'll need again. Shared the bottle with a friend who liked it much more than me.
