My apologies if this is in the wrong place but I couldn't find the All Things Van Winkle thread.  Plus, IMO, this is about more than Pappy and well worth the watch.  Interesting history and at 22:50, he tells a great story of how he went to a restaurant bar and ordered a glass of ORVW over ice with a splash of water and a squeeze of lemon.  He said he likes it that way, his dad drinks it that way and his grandfather (Pappy) drank it that way.  The bartender told him "Sir, I can't give you that.  Pappy would turn over in his grave." Okaay.  But the bartender agreed to give him the shot, some ice and a squeeze of lemon and he could mix it himself.  When he was done, he handed the bartender his credit card and said, "all the color drained from his face!"  Then the bartender and manager apologized saying they would never do that again.  "Lesson learned."

Two great lessons, actually.  One, you never know who you might be talking to.  Two, (and more importantly) drink it the way you like it and don't judge anyone for what they like!

This is one of my favorite stories. It’s funny that you remind me of it now since I’ve been enjoying Stagg Jr mixed with a splash of Polar Dry Orange soda, dash of bitters, two orange slices, and cherry.

I've seen this video before and had forgotten about that story so thanks for posting this!

This was a good watch, thanks for posting.  I always assumed that the VWs got to cherry pick barrels from the warehouse, but it sounds like from this video the barrels are pre-determined at distillation and placed in the warehouse in certain places, and they are VWs from the get-go.

I continually fail, too judgy, and continually proven wrong.  Food, books, movies, politics, religion; don't judge by the cover, sample it.  When Fireball came out, I dissed it for half year before trying it, and liked it.  Then tried it with coke; I avoid mixed drinks but will have that again.  Mustard and/or mayonaise on french fries?  2nd karate kid movie with jackie chan?

I'm all for not judging folks on the way they drink their booze, their preference in books/movies/music, and politics. But your opinion on French fries crossed a line! ?

Mustard on fries is great!

I discovered this one day when the cafeteria at work ran out of ketchup.

Hey, in Belgium, mayonnaise is the condiment to serve with fries.  They even have different types of flavored mayo to choose from.

I draw the line though at Fireball.

You’ve dipped your fries in Fireball?  ?

For the folks who haven’t tried it, don’t knock fries with gourmet mustard.  I’m not talking about the ubiquitous yellow mustard from our childhoods, or even Dijon mustard.  Quality mustard and crispy fries are damn good together.

French’s and fries?  Hmmmm. Don’t overlook vegetable dips. Marzettie ranch flavored veggie dip is good with a lot of stuff.

As is intended! But only people who can feel the look have any chance to benefit from it and amend their evil ways...
