I did some turkey hunting today.  Yes, real wild turkey hunting.  This was the only turkey I saw all day.  I guess that is why they call it hunting and not getting.

On Friday after work, I picked up a Binny’s ps bottle of Larceny recommended by Lost Politto. I was a bit skeptical because the last couple of bottles of Larceny that I had were only so so. I just opened this up and I’m having a nice pour. I’m glad I took Joe’s advice. This is a pretty darned good bottle. :P I just might have to  go back and grab another bottle or two. Now if I could only remember where I put my emergency/back up  bourbon cash stash.

Biba! Joe

You can always take it out of your second wife’s jewelry fund. ?

Hitting the JB DC after scoring a case for Xmas presents at $15.99 plus tax.  Don’t worry, still plenty left on the shelf at TW for everyone else.....?

Cracked an Eagle Rare. Not my fave but it'll do for a pour or two.

ER10 is good to have in the wheel house when revolving flavors.  It's great at its price point.  It's more nuanced and it's not as up front as some others like HH.  I 1st became acquainted/enamored in mid-1980's when I worked at chemical lab in kentucky lab which did independent verification of distilled spirits among other things (like race horse pee from churchill downs).  We had to keep sample for 30 days, after which?

I claim responsibility for intro of ER10 to SW Virginia if not the whole state.

At that time I also found samples of Kentucky Tavern which were incredible.  I bought some bottles that were incredible.  But also bottles that were ...not.  So I stopped that crap shoot.

Interesting backstory!

I must admit I did enjoy my pours last night more than I have done previously. Price is pretty good in the UK at the moment, under £30 in some places.

Began with an Old HH BIB, followed by a blend of EWBIB / EWSib 2001 / EW / EW1783.

I’ve said it before here.  Us Californians are always on the “butt end of the straight” (poker parlance) when it comes to bourbon distribution and pricing.  JB DC is one of the few and regular bright lights here.  I’m bunkering as much as possible while I still can.

Veddy nice!  Any idea what the bottle date is on that OHH BIB?  I’m assuming it’s pre-fire juice?

No, it's post-fire, based on DSP-KY-1 and DSP-KY-31 on back label.

Cracked the 11 yr ECPS last night. Very sweet, caramel apple. Not much oak at all. Very balanced. Should be a stark contrast to the 10 year 5th floor I picked up too compared to this 11 yr 3rd floor. Will do a comparison at some point.

Had a small pour of this last night and man, is it good.  I'm glad I have a good supply of older Booker's as I'm not buying it any more.  With the price passing $70 here and, IMO, the quality going down, Booker's is jumping the shark for me.

I decided to blow off work early and head for the beach crib.  That's what you do when its 72 degrees in the month of November and there's not a cloud in the sky.  Got about a half hour until  sunset and I'm tippling from the bottle of Corner Creek that I picked up last week.

I haven't had this juice in years; it provenance is a mystery,  but it hits the spot big time.    Sometimes I prefer a quality, lower-proof pour,  and I'm pleasantly surprised how good this is.   It compares very favorably with Basil Hayden's,  with a similar high-rye spice and a subtle vanilla caste to the finish.     At $40 bucks,  I'd buy another bottle  next time I'm at Bubbas in Wildwood.

But does anyone know what the heck this stuff is?    It's not a KBD product anymore,  the label says Crestwood, Kentucky.   It doesn't taste like HH to me  and I've never heard of Beam's high rye mashbill being sold to independent distillers.   Is there a connection to Jefferson's, which would suggests its a blend of barrels, since that's their bag?   Whatever,  it's a welcome Friday gloamin' respite from the election tango.

I picked up some Old Fo 100 recently, since it had been getting some good feedback.

I have to say, this is the best version I've had in a long time.

The first bottle I tried after they changed back to the vintage style white paper label was just OK well liquor, no need to buy a back up.

This is the same label, but tastes much better to me.

Started the night with a heavy pour of WT101 over a big clear ice block. Savored over ~45 minute episode of my wife’s and my current show on Netflix.

Ice was down to about the last eighth of the original block by the time I finished the WT101, so I poured a 1.5 oz of the Belle Meade standard I got a few weeks ago over the remnants. Perfect nightcap.

Though I love WT101, tonight my palate favored the Belle Meade. It has a chewy sweetness mid-palate that is just really, really good.  I will be a repeat buyer of this one for sure.

Yes! I go through this stuff at an astonishing rate now after having avoided it for about 5-6 years. It punches above its weight class.

I had been staying away too.  Signature was a favorite, then some rough years.  I always suspected it had something to do with stealing from Peter to pay Paul - Whiskey Row Series releases hogging the good barrels (speculation).  Anyway, the rye is great, now this too. ?
