clearmoon247
I thought a project I've been working on for the past 2 years. Its a custom barrel design the incorporates a stainless steel body with an oak base. If my math is correct, it has the same oak surface area to volume ratio of a 53 gallon barrel. The American oak is yard aged and sourced from a cooperage. The French oak base was crafted from a used wine barrel stave. So far, across the various iterations, i have ~30 "barrels" aging right now with the oldest being just over 1.5 years old.

I can't believe (actually I can) that we had the same basic idea. Well, that's pretty darn cool.
Soberiquet
I have been kicking around this idea myself, though I hadn't developed it this well. I considered using glass, but wasn't sure how I would securely attach the wood lid. Thought maybe cut grooves for the glass lip and then clamp/strap it in place. Please let us know how the whiskey turns out!
