BrbonLover76
Have no idea of it’s worth. I acquired it when my grandmother died in the 90’s. And it was very old then. I’d say it sat on her shelf for 20 yrs or more. Very Rare Dowling. 12 yr.

CUfan99
I wonder what was the first bourbon to use "very rare" in the name and when that was.

parksmart
Pics of the back label and, especially, of the tax stamp should reveal more clues about when this may have gone into bottle. From the color, it doesn’t look like there’s been any oxidation.

mbroo5880i
There is a lot of information posted on the Internet about the Dowling brand. Mike Veach indicated on one website that "Dowling Distillery was one of many companies that Schenley owned in the 1950's, 60's and 70's that were either sold off or simply liquidated. I would suspect that the whiskey in your bottle could come from any one of about a dozen Kentucky distilleries owned by Schenley. It could also have been bottled at any of these distilleries." Chuck Cowdrey indicated on another website that the brand is currently owned by Heaven Hill. Edited December 19, 2020 by mbroo5880i
