Bad Habit? You do this? Drink from bottle

Okay, I've rarely done this since my redneck high school college days.  Other day caught without glass and bottle was convenient.  Next day wifey wanted me to go on evening shopping trip with them (medication mandatory) and found 750ml ER10 bottle fits nicely in the back seat door drink holder and cold temps actually chilled bottle for me.  Tonight had to rush to computer for ebay project and found the Russel's 10 year and a 1980's JD worked fine without glass.  I like a glass to help measure intake but bottle sips ar very convenient.  Of course personal bottles should be sequestered from those shared, that's just good taste.

So questions posed is this a bad idea and who else does it?

Uh,  I no longer do this as such swigs were usually furtively undertaken and almost always resulted in dribbles down my chin and onto my shirt.  So much for secret swigging.  Like you, I determined YEARS (like, 1972) ago to give up doing this.

IOW, nononono, I don't do that no more.  I'm tired of the booze on the floor,  And on my shirts, pants, chin, beard when I had one, etc.

NOW, if you'd asked, "Do you keep little plastic tasting glasses around the house and random bottles in a closet or shelf on various floors?"  I'd have answered, "WHAT!!  You think I some kind of SOT?"  But, I would not say, "Sure."

Not that I have two boxes of these (which are dishwasher safe) and use them for offering SBS's to newbies, but --

When discreet self-medication is prescribed, I prefer a flask or small glass bottle.

Drink up and go home.

A small amount may condense in an empty before it gets recycled.  Bottoms up, and sometimes I get so much flavor from those few drops.  It would seem a shame to waste.

As much as I love Peckinpah's The Wild Bunch, I can't pretend that things might have been different on the trail if they had sturdy Glencairns in their saddlebags.

Swigging is a romantic/pirate gesture, but it also undeniably bypasses the olfactory component of the experience.

To me it's kind of like putting a 2 chew limit on a great piece of steak.

Or blasting a compressed mp3 of a great song on garbage headphones over the noise of the subway instead of waiting to get home and putting the record on in a quiet room on a hi fidelity system.

But hey, I like punk rock at least as much as I like classical. Is this your punk rock? If so, turn it to 11 until it stops working for you. But be careful. Johnny Rotten himself got stabbed in a London alley for being too far outside the cultural norm. Swigging (especially in public, but even at home) is objectively not a good look, and it WILL have unpleasant social consequences if it becomes part of your identity.

It amuses me how certain subjects here keep getting resurrected over the years. This is the third thread relating to “taking a slug” directly from the bottle. ?  Not complaining mind you, so carry on.

I’ll admit that during the summer I take a swig straight from the bottle of 4RYL that I keep stashed in the freezer.

About 5 years ago I went to an outdoor open-container BYOB event, and wasn’t interested in the crappy beer and wine that would be available on site, so I picked up a 375 ER that I was pulling from publicly for a couple hours. I don’t know if I would do that at this stage of my life, but with the party vibe that was going on there and then, it was pretty well received by everyone I chatted with.

I can’t, I’d waste far too much. Now putting it into a flask and drinking from that is a different story.

To me it seems barbaric lol.

Only when sitting on the curb in front of the liquor store with my buds on a Saturday night.  Has to be in the paper bag so when the police man drives by he thinks I am drinking diet soda.

^^^^^^ THIS.  I can't say I haven't done it but I can say when I have taken a chug/slug tasting or evening enjoying was not the purpose.

Here’s what I believe I pretty much posted in the other two threads.

Yes, I’ve taken a “slug” right out of the bottle a few times. This happens when I reach for a bottle I know is almost empty, and want to finish off. If there’s not quite enough to pour in a glass, I don’t waste my time. Down the hatch it goes. ?
