Old Hippie
Have any of you good folks had any of the Bardstown Bourbon Company offerings? I know they do a lot of custom distilling for some relevant players like Jeffersons, High West, Belle meade, Hirsch and Calumet. Curious as to your thoughts on their own brands. jnewberg
Love their Discovery 3 and 4, 5 was not that good, 6 was very solid... Their collaborations can be hit or miss... Liked the Ferrand and Prisoner but love the Founders KBS that came out... Price point is high but everything seems to be fetching a premium lately... Have not had their Fusion series
Jazzhead
Everything I've tried of their offerings - admittedly not much; they're not available here in Pennsy - have been excellent. I'm a big fan of blended bourbons, especially where the components of the blends (mashbills and ages) are fully disclosed. BBC has earned my business.
Rhettro
Bardstown makes and blends some delicious whiskey. Everything I’ve had from them was at least very good, and most were excellent.
Old Hippie
Thanks for your replies. I'm with a wholesaler in SC and we are considering bringing it in

Lots of experienced drinkers in my area jump on it as soon as new offering is out. We're lucky, plentiful here in virginny.
Kyjd75
Pretty solid. I live fairly close to BBC and have tried most of their Discovery and Fusion offerings. All have been good and some have been outstanding. I have become a big fan. By the way, their restaurant is pretty good also.
smokinjoe
Do they have a distributed bourbon of their own make?

I just looked at their website and don't see anything with only their own distillate. In their Fusion series in which they blend their own distillate with other sources I'm only seeing 3yr BBC distillate in the blend.
geclbxf
Their own distillate will be out this year for the first time. They are planning to make a big deal out of it. I have done the barrel thieving tour - and the distillate tastes great. Also know others that have picked "future" barrels, and they are excited. I think BBC is great - and provides a Napa valley type experience to the trail. The restaurant has already been mentioned, but is top notch. The outdoor space is excellent, complete with a new bar and more seating. They also have an amazing whiskey library (but bring your wallet). Their products are pricey, but bring back value in return. I have all 7 Discovery open right not, and you are inspiring me to do another SBS. I have done with friends, and they were blown away when told they were all BBC.

The whole 3 yr/4 yr distillate question in the Fusion has me confused. Not sure what they know which it is. The bottle of 5 I had was pretty good. Some blending talent there. But, the rawness of the BBC came dang close to screwing it up, IMO. That said, the best thing about the entire operation is the restaurant/bar experience. Hopefully, their whiskey will catch up to it someday.

I've never tried any of the BBC's because they aren't sold out here (which thankfully saves me from the struggle of trying to decide if I should buy one.) I totally hear you on the rawness of that young distillate. It just doesn't take much for it to be way too present in the profile.

I’m not sure I’ve had a Canadian whisky that didn’t have a rye component.
Old Hippie
Thank you all for your input. It is so helpful, in this situation, to have reactions from true bourbon geeks without marketing spin. Meeting with them in a couple of weeks and will push to have it brought in. Cheers Old Hippie
